Wow :o

Looks like the guys at Sony have finally been listening to what we've all been saying on their forums for years! This looks really exciting:

ACID may have finally become a serious DAW :)

Holly smoke! THAT's an update. I think I've found my next and last host, thanks for the heads up.

Wow! :hyper:

I always feel I'm in the minority around here, but acid pro is my main app. It is stable for me, and I think the way it works. Now it looks like there are some incredable new features!

Sorry, I guess I'm going a little flame-boy.

Yeah I know it! It seems that at last we're going to have proper MIDI sequencing, together with the sort of powerful audio editing many of use currently do in Sony Vegas.

Can't wait!

I would have been more interested in this a few years ago. It looks like they have made an excellent 2002 DAW. There is nothing here that I cannot do in Sonar or even mostly in Live, but at least they have freeze functions and better plugins. Sony may be listening, but their reaction time is awefully slow. I think they would be better off by scaling back and going to their original functionality at a much cheaper price. It is great for creating beds out of loops and then maybe rewiring into a better DAW.

Yeah, well, I hate Sonar ways of doing things, I can't get my head around Live and I've been having wet dreams about Vegas with midi functionalities for ages; this just might be it!

Agreed that it's been too long coming, but I know this thing will be a joy to use compared with Sonar, which IMO is clunky as hell!

So true!

Acid 5 didn't seem worth the upgrade from 4, but this looks like a definite improvement.

Now how much malware will it install alongside Acid? Sony has a bit of a reputation presently for being invasive.

Post

Malware? That's a bit harsh. You can switch off all the Media Manager stuff if you don't like it - one option and that's it.

Post

I dont think sony will attepmt another rotkit fiasco in the nearest future :)

Notice they're still promoting their "media manager" as if it's a feature, rather than the virus-like bloat & bugware that so many users find.

Also remember that Acid is the world's *worst* vsti host. Absolute shocker. And their MIDI is also terrible. Hopefully they've done a complete rework on that, but the screenshots look awfully like AcidPro5 midi to me.

A lot of Acid nuts (and I used to be one) may be excited about multitrack record and especially being able to place multiple events on a single track, but as has been pointed out, this is just playing catch-up and is more a "at last" rather than "wow".

Most of all remember Sony's reputation for bugs in Acid. Their last two releases were bug-ugly. I'd advise waiting at least a few weeks for the fanboy beta testers to report.

That said, if this release is stable and they've really worked the vsti hosting & midi, I might even return to the camp :-)

I think dystonia_ek was referencing the recent Sony music debacle, not product from the mediasoftware division.

That could qualify as the understatement of the year  . Browsing the pdf, it looks more like a complete program rewrite to me and it could push Acid in the realm of the top DAW software, incorporating the best of Vegas while keeping Acid basic functionality. I did say "could" as I will reserve my final judgement for when I try the demo (can't wait :hyper: :D ).
