You can put envelopes on MIDI Tracks? In that case I'm happy as hell.

...well, except that it'll probably be $150 bucks for upgrade again. No thx :)

This is an interesting response from Sony.

Midi was quite weak in Acid 6. A friend of mine uses an older version of Acid and is in the market for a new version, I advised him to wait for version 6 at least, he will be very pleased with the new Acid 6 specs.

Finally some good midi features in Acid combined with video and surround, not bad, not bad at all.

Dual core support is also a nice addition.

ACID was my first DAW i traded it for SX1 a long ago.
I was expecting that SX offered file browsing ACID style or ACID to offer multitracking and
Software monitoring, I´ll wait for SX4 but ACID 6 looks like it now... Awesome.
Can´t wait for the demo, I hope software monitoring and ASIO works well this time.

Looks like a bit of an improvement - but then again, they obviously raised the price two thirds... For me, Acid's over since last July when I switched to Live and I never looked back.

Notice also:

AcidPro 5: $300
AcidPro 6: $500

No words on upgrades.
A bit of a jump for sure, and certainly expensive for me but:

Live 5: $500.00
Sonar 5: $800.00
Cubase SX: $800.00
Logic pro: $1000.00
Samplitude pro: $1100.00
Nuendo 3: $2000.00

So, inline with other nevertheless methink, if it measure up of course(I personnally think they are all overpriced, without exception).

I'm happy with this release. It will do everything I need. Yes, a freeze function would be nice but maybe they will incorporate that before March. Spec's can change.

I find Acid Pro 5 to be rock solid with VST/VSTi. It works much better on my system than Sonar (which would suddenly close for no apparent reason.)

The only gripe I have is that they are still flogging those decepit 20 DX plugins. That's a bit sad IMO. Considering Sony own Oxford plugins and other fancy audio software they could've included a few tasty fx and synths.

I'll be upgrading for $150 like a shot. I don't think that's unreasonable. I hope it's no more than that. My ACID and Vegas upgrades cost $149 last time so here's hoping.

I'd heard rumours about Acid 6 and it looks like they were all true. I hope to god this is as good as it looks from the pdf, because I love Acid (yes, even 5) and anything that makes it competitive with Live/Cubase is a good thing.

I was about to get Live5 to replace Acid Pro 5 and Project5, but I'll have to check out this demo once its out. I really love working with loops and audio in Acid.

No word on upgrade price yet?

ACCCCCIIIIIIIEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant stuff. Strange thing though, i've used acid since Ver 3 and have never considered it only a "loop based production tool." (although it was marketed as such.) Ver 5 is brilliant (once you remove the trash like the media manager :P ) and ver 6 is sounding even brillianter :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Erm....I didn't realise the topic title was "alternatives to acid pro 6." eXT is a brilliant host, as is sonar, project 5, logic et al, but this thread isn't about them. Cheers for the "input" though.

Had to pick carefully thru the posts here to find one I agreed with 100 per cent [though some others were close].

I kinda backed into midiworld, vstworld, via the cheap version of ACID, which seemed able to do what I wanted at the time: play back drum and bass loops, burn them into WAV, and set them up as backing tracks on my TASCAM.

Well, that was a year ago...now I'm running ACID Pro (for some things), FL STudio (for others), enjoying energyXT (which looks able to solve some issues the others don't), and auditioning Zynewave Podium.

I've had a few issues with VSTis in ACID, so I hope they do get this right. As munchkin says, the DX plug-ins are really pathetic, and I always use imported VST effects in their place.

Sony certainly has the money and resources to produce a killer product. Whether the brainpower and resources in Madison are sufficient, we'll have to see.

It all depends if they read their mail carefully -- I'm sure lots of others have sent them long critiques of what's wrong and how to turn this product into a proper DAW/host. At an upgrade price around $150 -- maybe in June, after letting others debug it, I think -- I'd go for it. But all the others stay on my PC, too

In every sense this is good news -- a possible fix of an otherwise pretty useful product, fresh competition for a bunch of rather complacent over-priced ones... wish they had FL's upgrade policy, though.

Much to my surprise it seems like a pretty decent update.

I wonder if they have added the ability for VSTis to be able to use Send FX Busses instead of just Insert FX?
