Again...It's all about your workflow/needs/wants/need to have/nice to have...Sonar 5 is working out then there is no argueing right?

As long in the end we are all happy with what we're using and creating music.

Me, I'm gonna hold out hope that acid 6 is all it is promised. I'm really hopeful about the improved midi. I had no problem with the audio, even with recording one track at a time. But I need better midi editing, and it looks like I might have it.

I really just love Acid's interface for moving around loops. Split: press 'S' Reverse: press 'u' Bring up volume envelope: "V" Bring up Pan "P" Pitch up or down a semiton: "+ and -" Everything is easy to grab, arrange, move around, and its all displayed really well in the arrange view I feel. Plus, slaving in something like Reason, making a loop in reason then bouncing that to a clean cut audio loop that is automatically inserted into your project is all really easy and requires few mouse clicks. I just love working with audio in acid. If ver 6 can bring competent vsti midi editing and be stable, I'll be pretty happy.

Yep, it all depends on personal needs. Older Acid release were far too limited and limiting for serious post work, although it was still used around here for quick and dirty TV work (not by me though).
With this announced release I'm looking at the big picture. I am mostly interested in how they managed to integrate this Acid version with Vegas. If they did a fairly decent job of it, something like they did with DVDA, just imagine what power a suite like Vegas, DVD Architect and Acid would give to small post house or even single man operation like I run here. And all of it for roughly half the price of Nuendo, and incredibly more powerfull. You'd have to get something like Final cut pro, DVD studio pro, Logic AND a Mac computer to get something with similar functionality but at what cost? Not just one time buying cost but maintenence as well (yes cost does matter when you run a commercial operation, if I would have had to rely on Apple for my needs, I would have been bankrupt a long time ago).

If you were to add Soundforge into the equation, I don't think any other software house could even approach the functionality and flexibility as far as multimedia is concerned, at any price point. It all depends on how well it all works and integrates and for that, like you said, we have to wait and see.

BTW, unless I misunderstand the term, you can edit inline envelopes with Live and you can for sure assign a key to drop markers on the fly. Maybe you haven't tried v5 yet.

No I haven't. When Tracktion 2 came out with video support (albeit extremely limited), it felt like going backward going to Live so I did not bother. Mind you I don't use loop much, if at all, so the whole session view paradigm was kind of lost on me.

you can't remove it but you can stop it from loading when acid launches. it's on the main preferences panel, near the bottom. (i forget the exact wording.)

that should speed up your launch times.
