Wasn't Ableton formed by a couple of guys who left NI? I guess this is their answer ;)

didn't you read the press release? it's a revolutionary "universal sound module". DUH!

It's a Native Instruments Host Sequencer(that also runs in other hosts) with a dedicated hardware controller..

Controller looks cool.
Is this of interest only to NI users?

honestly, I kind of like the idea of KoreSound (similar to what Apple does with AppleLoops)... but its value will really be contingent upon its becoming an accepted standard, as there's no way in hell I'd go through all the patches in all the non-NI products I own (and I don't even own that many) just to categorize them. I may be OCD, but I'm nowhere near that OCD.

Post

But is it a real host? Can I record audio? Use Acid Loops? Automate my plugs?

It says that it works as a plug in other hosts, so I'm not getting my hopes up. It could just be a fancy way to organize your softsynths into templates that are easy to recall.

I'm hoping that someone comes out with a better host than what currently exists. I'm about two seconds away from sacrificing my sonar disks to the fire gods.

a subhost? How would it best eXT?
sorry to be so dense: the press release was rather uniformative and I don't immediately intuit the use.

seems like it will be of *more* interest to NI users, as it has close integration with all of their products... but as mentioned, it can host AUs and VSTs, so it certainly has some usefulness beyond that (although I've yet to see any features that would convince me to switch to it as my primary sequencer).

I'm not an NI guy--I'm wondering if any of you who are familiar with their prices for various things would care to speculate on a possible price range for this? Harware/software--$500usd? $1,000? More?

my thoughts exactly. guess we just have to wait and see.

Post

Nah- Not the NI host I was waiting for.. I think its basically like Receptor but with some nice databasing and a really nifty controller. I don't think it has much built-in sequencing...
Looks interesting but I was still hoping for NI to take Reacktor/Tracktion/Live and smashthemalltogether.
