No substitute for manually slicing tiny little fragments of samples and manually rearanging them.

Oh yes there is! This thread quite effectively proves that.
Sure if you are an ubertweaker and get a kick off that kind of trainspotter pedancy you *can* do it manually. But just look at that list of plugins (page 2). I dare you to do all that manually!

...no substitute for knob fiddling when on stage.
But it is also true what LIMIT... said. Very few of these plugins have the amount of control I like to have when making a tune, but pedantic arranging of the output of these plugins will yield very interesting results.
Maybe some kind souls would like to add the best bitcrushers in this thread as well?

I agree. I find the most important control to be the bypass.. in the host.pakana wrote:Very few of these plugins have the amount of control I like to have when making a tune
But there's no substitute for the real output of oldschool 8/12bit DACs like roland w30, sp1200, or akai s950! or the real soundblaster pro.pakana wrote:Maybe some kind souls would like to add the best bitcrushers in this thread as well?
kidding.
Yeah, bitcrushers here please.

Splichflifter has been mentioned, but for me that's one of my faves.
ioplong makes wonderful stuff.
NicFit made a bunch of MIDI utilities that are fantastic for adding a touch of algorithmic behaviour to your track.

untested c&p from a quickie forum search (it would probably be worthwhile to do these more often)

sure we wanna include step-sequenced gates? so why not a noisegate?
and are simple stutterers a glitch effect?
what's the name of that step-sequenced multieffect by Spoonboiler? was it Xenogate?

I suspected this would come up at some point.waiting man wrote:sure we wanna include step-sequenced gates? so why not a noisegate?

Like I said I need help with sorting everything out. I don't think there can be a clear definition of 'glitch'. But look at the initial list on page 2 and you get a pretty good idea of what should and shouldn't be included there.
As far as sorting them out goes, I don't think there's any one good way of doing it. Most of these effects are quite unique, or combine several different types of "glitch".
stutter/repeat/granular/slicer/reorder/bufferoverride/gater/reverse/crusher/destruction etc.

Not all the mentioned plugs are random/ automatic.LIMITAPROACHINGINFINITY wrote:No substitute for manually slicing tiny little fragments of samples and manually rearanging them.
IOplong's ones allow some extesive control. You can also play dfx Buffer Overide for your choise of manual glitches and stutters, synced and unsynced.
Lucifer give you a great deal of control and is allows reordering/ stuttering/ gating/ scratching/ rythmic effects/ gating and much more - this before v2 is out even.
The true swiss army knife of glitch.
Liveslice also gives you nice control too and can be used as an effect. Demoed it briefly and I will stick with Lucifer for now - it seems like a great plugin, though.

Was browsing xoxos plug-ins, he wrote this description about one of his randomization delay plug-ins (Disipline 2)
Take signal, delay, no feedback.. feed output of delay thru other delay.. repeat for total of five delays. add a randomised switcher to select taps, sync it to the beat, make it stereo. here is your sound, your sound, sound, here, here, sound, is, is, your, sound, is your..
LOL!
Also wanted to mention that Liveslice doesn't seem to work for me in FL Studio 5 or 6. It will work sometimes for no particular reason, and when it does work, it's only for a few seconds. Anyone have any info., is this a known problem?

One thing off the top of my head...
FreeZZZZer 2 by Diverse. SynthEdit, and suffers from a small problem with the buffer (sometimes the buffer content doesn't 'start from the beginning', instead there's a snippet of audio in the beginning, which makes repeating percussive stuff sound out of sync) but it's still rather nifty - and has seen a lot of use over here.

Don't forget to add Pluggo - it's kind of the grandfather of all glitch plugins and still offers a great variety of stutter-, slice-, warble-, granular-, deconstruction, whatever-effects.Kingston wrote:Hi all, here's an attempt at listing the thread this far. Please add anything you feel like it is missing.
And, as I said before, lots of Reaktor effects are fantasic glitchers as well, mostly the sequenced and the granular ensembles.
And talking about grandfathers: Remember Velocet Reorder?
