Hi Rabban,

I noticed there is a thread about this on the Adobe Audition forum. It seems there have been some teething problems with emailing the details out, and Adobe staff are currently trying to rectify the situation.

Some people have received the tube compressor, but they seem so far to all be US customers...

Give it a day or two, and I expect they will have this sorted out anyway

Hey thanks, headquest, for the info.

I haven't spent much time over at the Adobe forums yet (I have been spending way too much time at KVR looking for new NAMM news).

Cheers, mate.

Yeah, tried that and well, still not so appealing to me.

...and I guess that the paid updates are on an 18-month cycle, rather than the annual fee charged by Ableton/Cakewalk/etc, which helps a bit

This is a significant upgrade, and now I've had another session with it, I think I am definitely hooked!
For sure, I think when you consider the 18 month cycle, it doesn't seem to steep.

The more I use it, the more jazzed I am. When it gets down to it, for what I need it beats the hell out of Nuendo or Samplitude -- quick, clean mixing and mastering. ;)

I too like the upgrade....but the idea of because it's an 18 month upgrade it should cost more is absurd...it's been 18 months (actually 20) since the upgrade....if they upgrade again in another 18 months then that statement would make sense, but what if this time next year (keeping with they're trend of upgrades inflating) they release another upgrade and it's another 150 bux...what will you say then? Then to assume their cycle...how? They acquired CE in the late summer of '04, 1.5 came out late spring of '05...how someone can determine a pattern there is well beyond my clairvoyance ....but it's still steep...as I said I will still get it...but compared to other udgrades on other products...it isn't exactly upgrade of the year now is it?

Following this logic and as I am upgrading B4 too I really scratch my head..let's see B4 came out in 00, updated late 05...lets go ahead and call it 5 years...so if the longer time between upgrades makes it worth more money, shouldn't B4 be much more...they did add the tone wheels in between (but an add on and updates are not the same imo) and that was around 170 bux...B42 upgrade at audoimidi is 80 bux...less than half the cost of tonewheels and no doubt twice the usable features in the upgrade (the tone wheels was a complete waste of money, I was lucky and got it late when it went on sale).

So I should just drop down on my knees and thank Adobe for only charging me 130 bux...for a few features. Some features that many (like asio) feel should of been in the last upgrade)

BTW I do not like the gui much either, but it's easy to get use to, however if you darken it too much you can't see track names at all without hovering over the name...one thing I dont see which is a disapointment and perhaps I'll find it later, is that it doesn't seem to have the option to use multi soundcards anymore.

I love it though "we waited a long time to upgrade, making customers ask when...so now we can over charge because we made them wait so long"...B.T. Barnum would be proud...

btw I didn't get sonar until sonar 5 because the cost for me (I had home toilet 9, and 2002xl)was considerably cheaper...so it seems too me cakewalk is going in the other direction...;)

I would be very surprised, basically! Whatever the trend among music software companies, I doubt Adobe are interested in that (they didn't even go to NAMM with Audition 2.0 so far as I can tell from the NAMM brochure!).

Adobe has an established 18 month cycle with ALL their titles, and considering the development work needed across the whole of their catalogue I can't see them accellerating that process. Remember that over the next 18 month cycle they will also have to prepare for 64-bit processing, the forthcoming Windows Vista OS, and first off the Mac-Intel platform (with many of their products).

So I don't really think I would expect anything major for a while now

Version 1.0 quickly followed the acquisition and was basically the same program with their logo on it. Version 1.5 brought the release more firmly into the Adobe family, included some bits that Syntrillium were already developing, and brought Audition in step with the release cycle of the other video products int he Adobe range. Now that it is roughly in step, the cycle has syncronised to the typical Adobe 18 month (ish...!) pattern
but it's still steep...
I agree it is a little steep, yes.

Actually the more I play with it, the more I think this is a superb and far reaching update. Pretty much a complete redisign, not just graphically, but the whole mix engine, routing system, audio drivers, PDC... it seems to me that (while retaining the look and feel existing customers are used to) they have pretty much rewritten Audition from the ground up...

still they should have given 1.5 users a lesser charge than people with aa 1.0. that just pisses me off man so just because i wanted the .5 update, i have to pay them more? THAT MAKES NO SENSE.

Well for the last 20 months you have had the opportunity to use (and make money from) the features added in version 1.5 (which were quite significant) so I guess it does make some sense Ron

if what you say is true, and I'm not looking for a fight, trust me...then will you please explain why they only raised the price on the new purchase 50 bux? But take their customers that have been loyal from the start (as I have) for a ride. I hear what you're saying, I just don't think you're hearing what I'm saying...if the sticker price was 400 bux and they charged 130 for current users, that would be cool. Like I say they are not the only one...

Roxio spams the crap out of me because I bought cd burning software (version 4 but they were adaptec) I got version six when seven came out at walmart for 30 bux...they're up to 8 now....each version has been an upgrade price of 80 bux....4x80 is 320, plus the cost of buying it (which I think was 50 bux on version 4)...had I upgraded faithfully that would be almost 400 dollars for software that costs 80 bux (personally I don't think it's worth that either).

AA is great at 300 bux, 350 is reasonable with the upgrades, but if you bought it at 299 (300 bux) upgraded last time...100 bux...now this one at 130 bux...is it worth 530 bux?

Sooner or later a line in the sand has to be drawn, and again it's not just Adobe, but at least 30 bux of that is for the name, of that I have no doubt. Of course Adobe is larger so they have more overhead...but still.

I don't agree that it's a complete rewrite...95% of the features work the same, and I believe the effects are all the same as well...you just don't have the toolbar buttons taking up space. I'm sure their intention was to convince people it was more of a rewrite, and I see it's working.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying about the ongoing cost.

I guess that the thing with any software is that it's the license you are paying for. When a paid-for upgrade appears, the question is whether you want to license the new features for the extra subscription or not. If you chose not to, chances are when the next upgrade comes out you can get more for your money. I think there are a lot of people who pay for alternate updates, not each and every one, which is a sensible solution.

With Sonar 5, Audition 1.5, Reason 3, Ableton 5 and Sibelius 3, I probably need to chose at least one programme I don't continue to update here...

Can't seem to get AA to work with Ableton Live as slave...Nothing happens when i press "launch app" in the AA rewire config menu.
Anyone got an idea or could try if it works for you?

Post

You need to open Live seperately (i.e. not pressing "Launch" within Audition). This is true whenever you use Live as a Rewire slave in any host.

Post

screw it man. im not gonna update it.

BTW I like an 18 month upgrade....I think that's fair and logical...every year is a bit much sometimes...and I think you have a good point skipping an upgrades...;)

thanks! i tried that before but it still didn't work. it's working now though, seems like the transport in AA has to run to get sound out of Live.
