Ok, I did a search here, came up with a few posts here and there.. but it doesn't look like any real conversation about them.
If you have the model packs, what do you think about them? I just picked up a Guitar Port from E-Bay ($60!!) and it's absolutely incredible, I found a preset that I didn't even have to touch that works for my playing style. (Blizzard.) I was thinking about getting just the metal pack, but then the effects pack might be fun to play with, so I might as well get all three. Anyone else care to comment on them?

I have a Vetta II (Which has all the models of a fully loaded Pod XT or GuitarPort) and it's great. It's completely worth it for the extra models.
Excuse all the blood.

I got them all -- I have a guitar port from 1.0 and flashed to the latest build (which was very cool of L6 to let us do that).Dominus wrote:Ok, I did a search here, came up with a few posts here and there.. but it doesn't look like any real conversation about them.

For the money, what you get is pretty decent, it really depends on how you want to work. If you record wet, it's worth every cent, however if you record dry (or with only amp model and cabinet for example) vst/dx effects can match everything offered (except for maybe some of the mic modeling and the pitch shifter -- which rule!).
I'd say for the price, it's a good investment. If you buy all three kits it turns your guitarport into a freaking PODxt (as capable anyway) -- the new amp models and cabinet models are pretty good. I haven't fully exploited it yet, but it was definitely a painless upgrade and L6 Monkey was rock solid throughout -- I was a little nervous since the kind of stuff happening used new internet based licensing, etc.
Definitely ALOT of stuff comes with the 3 pack bundle, tons of effects, models, and cabinets. You mentioned you dont want to get too confused/too tempted to twiddle knobs and presets all day -- if you buy these upgrades naturally the complexity of your guitarport will increase 10 fold, so..
I'd say if you mainly want metal the metal pack is great, but the effects pack and the other pack is also great. You get a ton of presets for each of this too (and the presets also come with lots of great starting points with the new cabs/models).
Hope that helps bro.

Yup, my used one was a 1.0 and I flashed it and downloaded all the latest toys from Line 6. Much easier than chipping the original POD to make it a 2.0.grymmjack wrote: I got them all -- I have a guitar port from 1.0 and flashed to the latest build (which was very cool of L6 to let us do that).
I plan on recording wet.. I use tone for inspiration, when I find something that sounds good, the riffs just start happening.grymmjack wrote: For the money, what you get is pretty decent, it really depends on how you want to work. Actually, I do like tweaking. I've made a few soundsets for VSTis in the past (and I am working on a few now), and have recorded a number of sample CDs (and I am working on a new sample DVD set now.)grymmjack wrote: I'd say for the price, it's a good investment. The one thing that caught my eye was the metal pack.. the best amp head I ever had was a 5150, and the metal pack adds that.. So that one I was already planning on getting.
I appreciate the posts.. I've now added them to my wishlist!

You'll find more discussion on all things Pod here. Me? i've got Podxt Pro with all three model packs - highly recommended.

I can recommend the model packs. For me as a PODxt user it wasn't the greater variety but the quality of some of the new amp models that convinced me (e.g. Engl Powerball, Bogner XTC, Dual Showman, Brit Bass and Silver Amp to name a few)

I think Line6 is still doing the "buy 2, get 1 free" deal for the model packs.

I'd recommend the amp sims. I've been trying to get away from the POD and do more with analog pedals into a tube amp, but the POD is so easy and some of their amp sims are very good.

Yeah, they are. I all three model packs for my Toneport. Definitely worth the money.Norbert wrote:I think Line6 is still doing the "buy 2, get 1 free" deal for the model packs.

Someone posted on the Line 6 forum that the Power Pack is a waste, and that you should get the three-pack instead. I'm trying to figure out the difference myself.Lunch Money wrote:I've been considering the "Power Pack" (adding all PODxt models) for TonePort, but the other packs (ie. the ones for PODxt users, too) don't hold as much appeal for me.Haven't fully decided yet.

Hrm. Someone else on Line 6, when I asked the question, told me that the Power Pack had some great amps.
All a matter of perspective, I guess. A metal-type guy would probably just get the metal pack.
The funny thing is that I really only want a few amps from the 'collector's' pack, a few from the 'metal shop', and one or two FX at best. The only real way out of it is to pick one or the other from the amp collections and have done with it... otherwise, it's all 3! There's no real in-between. One pack or all 3. OR... the Power Pack.
Thing is with the Power Pack, all the normal PODxt patches are suddenly compatible. There are at least 4 decent amps in there....
I dunno. I guess I could always get both and then return the one I don't like.
That's money up-front, but their return policy (30-day complete satisfaction refund) is pretty liberal.
The Power Pack has the Twin....

I think though that the patches will find compatible amps. Something I'll need to play with, I haven't explored it too much, probably will when my wife goes to work.Lunch Money wrote:

Regarding the "compatible amps", this is all true. However, when the amp for the patch is a "VariAC'd Plexi" and TonePort loads up with a Line 6 Chemical X, you can't help but feel that somehow it's not going to sound the way the creator intended.
Also, Stereo Delay gets used a lot... the substitute Digital Delay isn't bazzacly the same thing, ya know?
MMm.....5150......
