Yes, the one thing that always occurs to me is that if Keith Emerson himself went out and bought a modular analog hardware synth tomorrow, and it sounded precisely like Arturia's emulation, he would be very, very satisfied.

Good sound is not unfair.kevink wrote:Isn't the Creamware MiniMax based on an outboard DSP card? That makes for a rather unfair comparison with products like MiniMoog V, Minimonsta, Minimogue, et. al. It might take another generation or two of PC CPUs before we can get that kind of modeling done in real time in a native implementation.
Best wishes, FRitz

I said the *comparison* with native emulations was unfair. Certainly not the Creamware product!fritzman wrote:Good sound is not unfair.kevink wrote:Isn't the Creamware MiniMax based on an outboard DSP card? that's what I read and what I understood. To clearify what I meant: Why should there be a "fair" comparisson? It's a synth and if it sounds good what's the prob? So: Good sound is not unfair.
Best wishes, FRitz

Just on the virtual Vs analog, I did a recording of a/b virtual/analog. Changed the tuning while I was doing the filter sweeps, so that adds abit to the mystery of whats what.

Yeah cool. You didn't even try to make them both sound similar or play the same notes. This could be anything. Both.whogotthefunk wrote:Just on the virtual Vs analog, I did a recording of a/b virtual/analog. at least you should explain what you have done.whogotthefunk wrote:Just on the virtual Vs analog, I did a recording of a/b virtual/analog. Changed the tuning while I was doing the filter sweeps, so that adds abit to the mystery of whats what.

is it just a softsynth? or a comparison?
which synth did you use?
....
...
as fitzman said... could be anything

Gee, guys, it seems obvious enough. Just listen to the thing. It's a sequence of synth nurdles, recorded a/b vitrual and real, with the mystery being whether the first or the second is the real instrument. The oscillator setup doesn't really vary, just the filter settings and modulations, so it's not what I'd call a carefully designed test. I can hear a bit of a difference, but I'm honestly not sure which is analog and which is VA - one test sounds to me like the first one is real, but two others tell me that it's the second. Which VA is it, by the way?

As an old Arp Omni2 owner (may God rest its soul) I had given up any hope of again hearing that very unique string-machine sound that graced so many classic recordings. Same for the Elka stringvox.electro wrote: Who's doing the original Arp Omni? I would prefer that over a Prophet, and it is a much simpler synth.
I discovered quite by accident that Roland's Fantom X series - augmented by the "Classic Keys" Rom card - produces these sounds wonderfully.
Even so, I'd like to see a good emulation of the Arp Quadra. Frankly the coolest thing would be to get a "Arp Classic Pak" containing, an Arp Odyssey, Arp Omni2 and Arp Quadra all-in-one ... similar to the way Korg bundled their Legacy Collection. It should also include the obligatory delays and reverbs that everyone seems to add to their VSTs these days plus the mondo-awesome 10-stage phase shifter that Arp used to make available as a standalone pedal.

Re: ear test
First virtual, 2nd Analogue
Who cares.... I like the 2nd sound better, I'd use that
ps. I agree with Fritz, this ain't an A/B comparison, it's a A/Z
LOL... I mean, the first part sounds like you are trying to emulate a Duck-fart

usb dongle
that's were they lost me on this one. It's a shame. I love prophet s. I have minimoog V and moog modular V from arturia and based on how good they sounds I would have gone for this too.

the experience with cracked/illegal versions forces (IMHO) ALL companies to use some sort of copy protections if they want to stay in bussines in the future.
The simple "CD-ROM and serial" protection has not worked well enough for Arturia in the past (there are way too many illegal copies) so they had to go a step further. Having only positive experiences with it, I am glad that they have chosen the Syncrosoft dongle instead of a challenge response system which would have caused much more trouble for Arturia and their customers.
Just my 2 cents

I wouldn't really expect this to make much difference though since if the protection is broken just once then the cracked copy can be spread ad infinitum. Considering that cracks of syncrosoft protected software seem to be all over the web it doesn't seem very likely that this protection will keep the synth from being cracked.Fr@nk wrote:the experience with cracked/illegal versions forces (IMHO) ALL companies to use some sort of copy protections if they want to stay in bussines in the future.

if this is an A/B test, I have to say that both the first and the second sample sound very digital to me...as if it was the same VSTi.whogotthefunk wrote:Just on the virtual Vs analog, I did a recording of a/b virtual/analog. If any of these is analog, I would also say the second sample...
the first sound exactly show how static most VSTi sounds in the bass department... its more described as noise.
