It's been around since they were introduced, and I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon. That's not to say they won't, but there's been no hint that it's "for a limited time only."

I was just over at the page, and the Classics look good after all! The "Line 6 Twang" might suit my needs for that kind of amp, and the "Dual Showman" sounded great, at least in their demo clip.

Mmmm....

Decisions....

On the other hand, only the proprietary "Line 6 Big Bottom" impressed me from the metal set. The rest didn't sound all that special. Sure would like to hear their take on the 5150 though. The sound clips they chose were too much 80's metal or "Motorhead" (which is cool and all) style metal.

But then back to the Power Pack... some good amps, PLUS auto-wah (I like auto-wah) and Stereo delay...

Grrr... decisions, decisions....

Are the packs expensive Greg? If you were me, you'd get all three of them! ;)

Nothing wrong with a lot of choice. Even if you only use a few of them twice a year.

I have a Pod 2.0 - Would love the PodXTLive and the Bass Pod someday. :(

Twist those knobs! I'll admit I wasn't too impressed with some of the demos, but I remember making that original kidney bean sound way better than what was on the CD that came with the guitar magazines. :)

I downloaded the entire tone library, was browsing through it for about 40 mins today, loading tones and having it substitute amps and effects. It usually picks something fairly close, and then I just twist the knobs til it sounds good... and kill the reverb, and move the virtual Mic closer to the AMP. Either it's importing patches badly, or people really think they're doing it right. ;-)

$100 for the three pack, or $100 for the powerpack, not too bad. I'm still leaning towards the three pack, adding a bunch of metal amps.. that's all me. :)

Yeah, to get the WHOLE shebang that's $200 US, which is more than the cost of the TonePort!!!

I wouldn't even HAVE this thing were it not for Jolly St. Nick, so I don't have that kind of extra dosh to throw about. I'm *this* close to getting the classics pack, though. I can scrape together $50, even if I can't pull together $200. The demo for the Dual Showman is exactly what I'm after... I tried pulling it off with the Jazz Clean and the other "clean-ish" models, but no go.

As for tweaking, I agree completely. TonePort is VERY responsive to tweaking, unlike many other sims I've tried!

:) We feel your pain man. And agree about the demo clips. One of my favorite new effects is the pitch shifter/octaver pedal. It's not quite as good as the guitar rig one, but it's pretty close.

One thing I forgot to mention: if you install the presets with the model packs, it REALLY slows down selecting presets for some reason. I think it is because L6 stupidly and smartly (yes it's both) compressed the presets for the packs into single files, and the program actually decompresses them on the fly or something. It's really strange because if you look at your presets directory structure there is only the preset file in a big chunk, as a single file. I have tried renaming the files to .zip, .arj, .rar, etc, (because most of these proprietary file extensions are nothing more than renamed popular archive formats) but the archive appears to be special (atleast it's not those) -- I was hoping to decompress the file and leave it in decompressed state so that EVERY time I go to access a preset I dont have to wait for 5 seconds (yes it's that bad on this machine).

So be aware of this caveat with the model pack presets...

Wait what?

The powerpack != the bundle? I bought the bundle and it came with metal, effects, and classic... What am I missing?

Also can you record toneport dry and then add effects post fader FROM the toneport? What is the point of a toneport if you already have a guitarport? What I see is it comes with it's own audio interface (I already have this and love my current one - a M-Audio Delta66/ w/Omni i/o breakout and preamps)...

Mic-capable stereo ins, metering on one model, and some mic pre models I believe.

Power Pack: The premiere Model Pack for your GuitarPort. Altogether, this Power Pack gives your little red buddy 19 additional amp models and 26 more effects models

# Metal Shop: Crush the enemy and see them driven before you! 18 punishingly high gain amp models from the super-powered HD147®.
# Collector Classics: Get those sought after vintage heads and rare pawn shop treasures. 18 amp models from Flextone™ III and Vetta™ II.
# FX Junkie: Pile on the Vetta II effects! 30 effects models including synths, filters, delays, choruses, compressors, distortions, and sample and hold.

Looks like the three pack gives you 36 amps and 30 effects.. so it gives you 17 more amps and 4 more effects? :)

- TonePort does NOT have all the PODxt models. The "Power Pack" add-on, which is $100, brings the TonePort up to PODxt status. This is entirely seperate from the 3-pack of "Metal, Classic, FX." 2 different things. The second bundle is also $100, bringing your total to $200 for a maxxed out TonePort.

- That "all presets in one" thing is weird. I don't know why they did it like that! It DOES seem to slow down preset selection, though I had put it down to the fact that I was also batch-converting MP3s. I'll give'er a go later to see whassap.

- You cannot record a wet AND a dry simultaneously from a TonePort without some trickery. This is frankly ridiculous on the part of Line6. They market it as their "recording interface", but yet they don't include one of the most-needed features for a recording musician, natively? Pure oversight and craziness. However, not one to be stopped at something silly like that, I bought a signal splitter + DI (to match impedance) and now use the instrument + mic ports to accomplish this goal.

It also allows me to play 2 amps at once, or select between them. Which is good fun. ;)

- Re-amping is currently ridiculous. It doesn't recognize its "internal" signal as an input, and therefore you need to PHYSICALLY cable up the unit in order to do re-amping. Sillier than silly, but at least you can do it.

Right now I'm doing my best to record the perfect wet tone so that I never have to go through the hassle. But I DO record a dry signal as well in case I want to re-amp or use some future whiz-bang plug-in that sounds great.

The differences between the GuitarPort and the TonePort are many, and yet depending on your purposes they are few. If you ONLY want to record guitar with it, you might be just as well off with the GuitarPort!

Oh, BTW, I bought the Collector's Classics to take for a spin. Some of them seem redundant, but some are gorgeous. The "Deity Crunch" is simply the best of the crunch amps in the Line6 Line that I've tried so far.
