Here's my own list of the new stuff that caught my eye - no small upgrade and not bad value, it seems to me - going from a less that 20mb program to an almost 600mb program does imply a pretty substantial rewrite .....

A completely new tabbed interface and customisable workspace layout system, enabling workspaces to be set up for each task and user and saved/recalled/reset.

Audio scrubbing (two types) in both multitrack and edit view

Support for Ogg Vorbis audio file format

"Adobe Bridge" file browser and metadata system

XMP metadata can be added to audio files

Support for BWF audio file format

Support for files larger than 4GB

Recording time limit in edit view and multitrack view virtually unlimted

Support for ASIO audio device drivers via brand new mixing engine

Multitrack recording direct to disk, not via temp files, no need to save after recording.

Spectral Pan display of audio

Spectral Phase display of audio

Lasso tool for making freeform selections for frequency space editing in Spectral view

Lasso tool can make multiple selections in Spectral view

Improvements to control of resolution in Spectral view

Preservation of vowel sounds when stretching audio

Completely redesigned effects rack in multitrack view

Monitoring inputs with effects now possible in multitrack view

Completely new mixer, highly configurable, with many new facilities and very flexible routing

Configurable number of audio, midi, and bus tracks

Automation of many track parameters including effects, supporting hardware controllers

Copy and paste clips in multitrack view

New efficient mixdown dialog

Real time effects can be applied to multiple ReWire tracks

"Scrubbable Hot Text" to modify parameters as in Premiere Pro

More video formats playable in the video window

Better integration with new version of Premiere Pro

CD layouts can be saved

Improved support for markers in CD layouts

Drag and drop to rearrange song tracks in CD layouts

Multiple CDs can be written

Improvements to track property customisations in CD layouts

New phase analysis views

New multiband compressor

Excellent new help files

All tracks or buses can now be exported at once (eg for use in another DAW system).

flexible bounce options from tracks, buses, or the master track.

Adjustable interface brightness

New punch-in system with "Quick punch in" option

Handy new "Close unused media" menu option in multitrack view

fair enough (as you can see above I ordered mine) but don't dare suggest anymore books too me...:P I wasn't too impressed with that using aa1.5...perhaps if I didn't already have the manual... :hihi:

Well, as listed above the manual is pretty good this time - though the help file somehow seems easier to read (personal preference I guess) if you go through pressing "next topic".

yeah the manual was good for 1.5 too, that's my point...you gotta get use to my sarcasm :hihi: But I bought that book for 30 something dollars and it was really just the manual reworded...

I like both a book and a help file, that's why I ordered it and didn't download it.

one question for you audition users. I have cool edit pro, and I'd like to record voice dry while at the same time listening to it with effects. how can this be done in cool edit/audition?
thx

I do this easily in FL; maybe it cannot be done in cool edit/audition?

Post

I'll try to remember where the book is, or if you can wait I'll tell you when my 2.0 gets here...I know how to do it in Sonar...

thx Hink. I'm tired of recording voice into FL and so I'm going to use another program from now onwards. Cool Edit is my preference #1, but I'm also considering Audacity or Kristal Audio Engine; just simple programs to record voice. But I need to be able to listen to effects while recording dry, since some reverb has always increased my confidence while singing.
thx again

I can relate, however being a bad singer trying to get better myself I have found that it's easier for me to monitor dry. It's more accurate and no color...but I'll see what I can find out... :)

Yes, but for me, confidence is very very important; when listening to myself dry, I sometimes get disencouraged, don't know why. I'm not Frank Sinatra but don't sing horribly either, I think. But anyway, some reverb gives me that extra-confidence I need.
anyway, different people, different methods ;)
I'll appreciate it, as always. thanks

One thing that is REALLY a sacrifice of good functionality to the God of 'artistic GUIs' is that when I select a track in the multi-track view, it's like a zillionth of a degree of lighter shade of gray, which makes it difficult to see clearly.

This is the same damn thing Gol refuses to acknowledge in FLS6 on the midi channel colours -- like channel 1 is a pea-pastel-green and channel 2 is a c**t hair lighter pea-pastel-green -- and all to keep things "colour-coordinated", which is stupid and dumb and sucks. :|

yeah, I use 4 different midi channels with vsampler mostly and I set it up channels 1,5,9,13 just because of that... :)

well updating my records and a little math, including the 49 bux to buy CE2K. Going the upgrade route from CE2K the total with 2.0 (not counting shipping or taxes) comes to 346 bux... I reckon that's pretty fair...2.0 is the break even point....:)
