I really like the idea behind the StepFilter plugin in Cubase. However, the sound is a bit ... ehm ... digital.

Anyone who knows a similar effect from another manufacturer?

You could try the filter section on THIS. Its a sweeter sounding filter I think. Plus all the other effects come in handy too..

That's the most unique GUI I've seen in a while...

I hope that's a good thing!
I just don't like software that tries to pretend its a piece of hardware, there's room to be creative with a software GUI..

yes... unique in a good way.

Cheers.

Step filter has a bpm-synced step entry matrix, bit different. (Looking forward to your Scamp, though.) ;)

Actually, for neat bpm-filtered sounds, I'd try Obertone Filterbank. Ronin might do the trick too, but there is no demo.

Also Filtseq.

On the pricier side, there's Filterscape, Antares Filter and that other one...damn, can't remember...

Ah yes: Frantic. :D

Try Murmur from Tiny God. Free 8-step version, more advanced 16-step version for $15.

Also try Martin Brinkmann's pcf. Excellent 16 step filter for free, although it has no GUI.

You could also try any filter that accepts MIDI note input for the cutoff. Ohm Force's Frohmage will let you do this, I think.

CamelSpace will do this for you - you can route its step sequencer to either filter cutoff, volume (for trance-gate style effects) or pan position. Click the link in my sig.

And CamelSpace is very good too. I use Stepfilter an awful lot less since buying CS.

Camelspace. Of course. :dog:
