Hmm.. I actually prefer the Precision Limiter in these examples. It does sound a bit more natural somehow. It sounds like it might not even be 100% stereo locked which might explain the open sound. Try setting elephant to around 70% stereo link or so to make it a bit less "rigid/sterile".

mark4man, differences are too small to judge here. They basically sound all equal. The only difference I can hear is how peaks are handled (and there are not many of them - three or four for the whole clip). I can hear the difference mainly at the end of this clip where level increases and limiter kicks in. But even there it's hard to judge.

Thank goodness! I was afraid my ears were so terrible that I couldn't hear any difference. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one. I confess that since I didn't hear any difference for the first 1/2 of the clips, I just didn't go until the end.

The SSL compressor? Extremely simple design, yet people love the sound.

Oh please...this is simply not true! I played the clips for 5 people in my office; & 4 out of 5 of them said Elephant added bottom end. Even the less knowledgeable folks said things like "the bass drum is louder". These evaluations were not prompted by any coaching on my part.

Elephant ADDS it's own sonic character, whether or not you or SebbyNC can hear it. I'm not saying that's bad...I'm just saying it's there. Please admit it...as to not do so seems a bit disingenuous.

mark4man, if you are using DC Filter, it may sound like bass end have changed. Moreover, a very basic spectral matching shows no bass end boosts.
