You know nothing! Waves GTR kills any other amp sim by f**king miles. You must not know how to acheive a decent tone in the first place. As for comparing GTR to Amplitude 1, well how embarrising to admit that you like Amplitude better.

Have to snigger about the Guitar Rig 2 review in SOS and basically how the USB controller is basically crapolla. Back to the drawing board at NI
...speaking of "Tool" :) LOL

How could a fellow Aussie be such a dick :) hehe

Prove me wrong, mate... Chuck up some metal demos of you going off on GTR and let us all judge

A. It doesn't have a flashy GUI and

B. It requires some understanding of guitar amps to create a decent sound.
C. It requires an iLok to demo the product. If you don't already own one, who's going to buy this key just to demo the product?

It is priced in the same range as GR2 and AT2, and both have a "no hassle" demo available (well, not sure for AT2 but there was a demo for AT1, so should be one for AT2). I would never buy a sim amp without being able to demo it first, or if I had to buy an iLok just for that...

Just out of interest even if someone did get an iLock to demo it would it sound the same? - doesnt it need the hardware component to sound right or does the hardware contribute nothing to the sound?

or asked in another way, how much is the di box included in GTR just about marketing???

I never tried this di box myself, and have no idea how good it really is. But from the price, I guess there is no comparison with a Radial JDV...

If you have active pick-ups (such as EMG '81) or a decent sound card with high-z input, it won't make much difference to the sound. What I mean is, if you didn't like an amp sim just by plugging your guitar, using a di box won't make you change your mind.

I had a chance to demo GTR a few weeks back at my local music shop and was very impressed with their amp models.

Now, everybody has different needs and wants when it comes to electric guitar sounds, but for my money this is the best sounding package out there right now. I have been playing and recording guitar for over 25 years and have owned dozens of amps. I also purchased Amplitube 1 when it came out, and I still like it, but it doesn't compare to the sounds we were getting from GTR.... but like I said, everybody has different needs so use what sounds best for you.

I reckon that I could make a decent recording with any of the commercial ampsims; none of them are complete rubbish.

If I had a choice though I'd pick GTR; it really does sound like an amp, or at least as close as damnit once it's sitting in a mix.

Problem is that I don't need (or want) the hardware aspect...

Another massive Tool fanboy here ;) Although lately, Oceansize have taken the crown.

"massive Tool", lucky u :) or should that be lucky g/f...... LOL

To be fair though, what is a good tone? C'mon, I'd really like to know what makes a good tone and what makes a bad tone. Plexi Head? Wanna fill me in on that one?

Because as far as I know, a good tone is one that works for the song in question. If stabbing holes in a speaker cone and running my guitar through that gave me the tone for the song in question, I'd use it!

The reason I wont go near Waves is coz its Waves. Most over hyped company and product range ever - in my opinion.

This I agree with. The whole 'good tone as objective concept' is bullshit; most people obsessed with 'good tone' are talking about 70s rock, or muso wankery like Gary Moore or Vai or Jeff Beck or whatever...meh.

That's cutting off your nose to spite your face; some Waves stuff is not good, some it ok and some is full-on great. Use your ears rather than your prejudice.

My friend is the biggest Oceansize fan ever, nice to know someone else actually knows about them. They have such a good core of talent and some rather nice tunes, the drummer is godly.

Meh indeed :)

To some extent yes. But... I don't see why I should bother with Waves when I can use my Kjearhus EQ's, SIR for reverb (more flexible than Waves imo), and the Buzzroom compressors.

I'm a big fan of freeware, and there really is some amazing stuff out there, such as Buzzroom which I mentioned.

Discovered them about a month or two ago now. They've quickly become my favourite band of the moment.

Good on ya. My mate discovered them when they came and performed at his University about 2 years ago or something. Since then he follows them around everywhere. He helped them pack up their gear last time he said heh.

hehe. They sound like cool guys. I'm gonna try and see 'em next time they're near London or Birmingham.
