I'm completely shocked that an independent guy can get a better physical modeling sax going than even arturia and ircam combined.

hahahaha, thats kind of stupid because there is no "sound", its a midi controller, thats like saying one of m-audios midi controller keyboards sounds bad.

im sorry to laugh at you but it just reminded me when i replaced my wx11 with a wx5 and several people i work with said the wx5 sounded better (same synth model plugged in to both so they sounded indentical) apparently some people hear with their eyes!

now as far as looks, i do like the lights but not as much the shape, but its a something of an improvement over the previous akai and steiner-parker design and it offers much more control so, at least for now, its the best midi trumpet out there.

Ive been playin the wx for almost 10 years now and i find musicians react to it pretty polarized, they either love it or hate it. i think theres a resistance to change, when a guitar player sees you get more applause for your lead guitar sound than he for his it can tend to freak them out.

the audience on the other hand seems to all love it. Im sure morrison gets a lotta fun and a lotta love using his.

Wow! Finally realistic brass emulation, that trumpet sounds phenomenal. It's as close to the real thing as I've heard, to tell you the truth I think it sounds even better than the VL70m. Wow, this must be the best expressive instrument I've ever heard in the past year. You did a fine job on the Rhodes and Wurlitzer, and I can't wait for the sax emulation if you can get it up and working again. Since the sax is a reed instrument, I'm sure a harmonica, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and even bagpipes would be possible too since they are all based on the same principles. I'd love to see a flute model too. I love the irish tin whistle and the panpipes, these are my favourite wind instruments.

I haven't tried the beta yet (though I will, and I have an aftertouch capable setup..), but I just wanted to say the mp3s sound incredible! Not 100% realistic, but I'd think with a good reverb they would sit in a mix much better than some static samples.

It's not the realism but the expression that I've been looking for. You can't get expression with samples unless they're very sophisticated and even then they are just static samples, with no real changing dynamics to the sound. With physical modelling you get the dynamics along with the expression and tonal changes. It's a lot better than samples, even if it isn't 100% realistic. 99% realistic (which I'd say Miles'tone is roughly 99%) is good enough for most of us. Just can't wait for a good polished sax model. The one I heard in the mp3 was good, but I think it needed a bit of polishing to get it sounding a bit more realistic. It still sounded awesome, I thought the sax would make a great expressive instrument, but I'd call it an oboesax.

I have to agree about the vl70m trumpet vs guidos, guido wins. same with arturias.

maybe its a little closer battle with arturias but the vl70-m trumpets all sounds like mini trombones.


but it just blows my mind heres this guy, 1 guy, and he comes up with this.

i got my beta test version from him and immediately ran off a 1 take live no editing thing for him but i know if i spend a little time practicing, just like with any new real trumpet, ill get used to the "horn" and be doin better.

Its really exciting to see this suprise development it acoustic physical modeling now cause besides arturia there hasnt really been anything else and it didnt look like thered be anything else for a long time...and then BAM!!!!

PHENOMINAL!!! (again!)

i'm going to go crazy until i get the sax model, missing my stolen z1.

the tone is as close as i figure one can get with current technology (and remain cpu implementable) - not missing z1 in trumpet model!!! :love:

i am finding an 'air click/threshold' low on the expression scale.. eg. if i increase expression from say 10% to 50% somewhere around 20% i get a sudden burst of noise.. might be inherent to the model i understand.

will you be releasing synthedit module/source for this :hihi: :love: love: :love: :hihi: - and did you work with chris?? :p

okay.. my suggestion for instrument is to include at least an envelope for expression, driven by velocity/choice. this will allow those who don't have appropriate controllers to get some use out of it.

for my physical models, i included a couple of lfos.. i suggest doing so here.. some egs and lfos, while 'generic architecture,' would allow someone who eg. has no controller (it happens! last i heard donkey was still clicking in sequences..) to create a performance they can use in a track.. eg. in se i route one lfo to pitch fine tune, and route a second lfo to the phase of the first lfo.. applied to a standard sequence, this can create interesting not-so-apparently-cyclic performance that can be *used* even if it isn't an "absolutely perfect" performance emulation.
