Hi guys,

I've been trying to use GSnap on my tunes, rather than fork out for Autotune, but I'm having some problems...

Check out http://www.simonwatson.com.au/songs/vox ... 0gsnap.mp3 - this is a short line with no GSnap on it. Then listen to http://www.simonwatson.com.au/songs/vox%20gsnap.mp3 - you'll hear how GSnap seems to have trouble constraining the long note...?

Let me know what you think!

By the way, I've pm'd gy to see what he thinks, but I'd like the opinions/experiences of other users.

Oh, and please, no pointless comments about me singing in tune in the first place...

Its not the idea to hold the note at one pitch,
but to correct the pitch of that note.
With different settings you can get close to that tho...

Hi boogooloo. It definitely sounds like GSnap's struggling with that clip. I'll have a look at it as soon as I get some time - probably tomorrow evening. Hopefully I can recreate the problem using the mp3, I'll let you know.

Cheers.

Thanks guys!

Midiworks - as you can hear from the dry sample, I AM singing the note at one pitch (or holding the one note), but it wavers a little. I think that's what GSnap struggles with at this point, because it's happened on a number of songs.

Gy - Thanks mate! I'd really appreciate it! Love your work!

Wow, the only thing I didn't try, and it worked!

(I think - more testing required.)

Thanks, dude!

:D

P.S. Why would that make such a difference??

Er, actually, it'd work if you had a melody which was only a few notes apart, but doesn't work for all practical purposes.

Still, good to know!

Automation is your friend... turn Max Freq down just for that particular note, then back up to your normal setting for the rest of the song. ;)

Er, yes, if only it were that simple - in most of the tunes, this occurs a few times per track, so it would be incredibly tedious having to automate everything! Besides which, as you can hear, it's a pretty subtle problem, and sometimes you might miss it at first, and then hear it later - would really freak me out if that happened!

Autotune is safer at this point, although so much more expensive!!! I'll hang on for a few days while gy does some tests though - it's such a promising plug!

There are people who, in Autotune, meticulously manually 'fix' problems, without ever touching "auto" mode!

I agree that it'd take a lot of patience, but I guess it all depends on how important it is to you. Are you quite certain that Autotune in auto mode wouldn't do something similar?

Well, I've used Autotune in studios (in auto mode) for as long as I can remember, on my voice, and it's always been completely effortless, and FAST.

When you're doing lot's of work, you need these things to be easy and quick. It's funny you say that about using graphic mode in Autotune, because I've been in some pretty major studios, and I've never seen anyone use it, besides for major surgery!

That said, I would have no problem paying even a substantial sum to Gy if he gets this going well - he would well and truly deserve it! And these posts weren't aimed at starting arguments (not that my conversations with Lunch are arguments!), but to hopefully realise the true potential of this awesome plug!!
