Pretty cool VSTi! :)
One word... smoooooooothhhh :)

(and I HATE 99% of modern jazz :) I'm a trad. jazz kinda guy)
Another word: brilliant. That's a breath controller in action, right? I want one! But I still can't figure out even how to get my mod wheel to apply vibrato in FL Studio. :help:

This plug is outrageous. I'm no trumpet player, but to my ears that sounds incredibly "realistic". And if there are slight differences to the real thing that an expert can discern, I don't think they matter at all. It still sounds great.
Thanks... I just played it in live using my keyboard. I had the breath controller (controller #1) assigned to one of the knobs on the keyboard.

If Zio was a smart boy he'd get ya to do all his audio demos :)

Not so in my experience and these can be really drawn out too. I will agree with you on the different tone thing though. The point about giving away that it is a synth is a good one - perhaps that squeezed tone of the half-valve port is a good thing to model.

The stuff you were saying about fingering the intermediate notes - that is certainly what you do on a sax or clarinet to get a gliss. In those cases you have more or less the same regime of oscillation but on a progressively shorter tube. As you finger the notes of an ascending octave scale on the trumpet, the regime of oscillation changes completely as you cross the harmonics so the notes are not nearly the same in timbre or harmonic content.

Also, with the trumpet, because you keep occluding the flow when the valves are opening and closing, the smooth "Rhapsody in Blue" type gliss effect is not possible without that half valve slur effect. It only works if you keep the tube open and use your lip/air it seems.

Also, getting back to Milestones - you could model the "steppiness" of a scream up the ladder of harmonics. That would be pretty damn cool if you could program the physics of the instrument into the "port" effect. Ziokiller - if you are interested in this idea PM me - I would be happy to discuss the harmonic series stuff if you are not a trumpet player yourself.

SRF wrote:... Mind you, I bet Arturia are choking on their cornflakes it they're also listening to it right now. Is Brass really any better than that?
Arturia probably are choking on their croissants if they're following this development, but I tried the Brass demo the week before MilesTones came out, and the Arturia trumpet really is a little bit more realistic than what Guido's got so far. That's not to say that MilesTone isn't amazing - it is - but the Arturia trumpet is quite remarkable. But it provides very little option for extremes of expression, pressure, etc. I should also provide the caveat here that I've only been able to compare the two using MIDI keyboard/pedal/wheel controllers. I haven't got a breath controller or a wind instrument interface - though as a former sax player, I may well invest in one (Tony O., if you're reading this, I sent you a KVR private message asking for some advice in this regard. Did you see it?).

Where Arturia needs to sweat is in the sax department. The Arturia Brass saxophone is embarassingly bad. I thought that people were exaggerating until I tried it myself. Guido's pre-beta demo MP3 already sounds better, and if Guido can get his sax to the public faster than Arturia can get a radically improved Brass 1.1 to market (and I'll bet he can), Arturia is going to be in a very bad position. A shame, I think, because Arturia does some really good phyically modeled electronic VAs, and I'd hate to see their forray into physically modeled accoustic instruments blow up in their faces.

Fabulous! It works fine now. Many thanks. Now how about making it possible to control the other controls (eg expression) in the same way? I don't want much do I?

Post

LOL... damn, my pic died already....h ahahah ... lame server

re others... just add em, right next to the breath, right click knob, etc... just look up the standard CC no's

(shout out if anyone wants me to re-up the pic)

Post

am i right that MilesTone responds to MIDI in omni mode? having a MIDI channel selection would increase fun with something like Chordspace and a bunch of MilesTones :)

Awesome sounds ZioKiller! Incredible really... Hope you find a way to recreate that sax - that sounded shockingly good too.

Greg's demo was great as well. :)

:-o :o Do you give lessons, Greg? That is a terrific demo. I'm just amazed you it's that "playable" on a keyboard. Whew, nice stuff. :D

I haven't tried beta3 yet - tonight. Congrats, Guido. :D :D :D :D

I'm up to my old hat tricks again.

Brilliant, just trying it out now, but absolutely brilliant and I am truly envious as I have been experimenting with a brass model for a while now and my results are not even close to this level of playability or realism. I really hope you manage to pull off the sax model too.
Have a better one - Saul Cross :-)

I did a gig last night and am still a bit tuckered out and tonight im going to see arturo sandoval but tomorrow i might sit down and do a real trumpet vs. milestone demo, if my lips are cooperative.

I know its easier to ask for these things than to actually program them but.....

itd be cool to put some "smart smoothing" on the pitch bend so that when you are quite near the home note it bends smoothly up a half step and down a full step but then beyond that have the breakpoints/nodes become more effective like they are currently.

i also have noticed some good things about the older demos and i was thinking itd be cool to include more of the modeling parameters available so all these sounds could be available and even more custom programmed.

that would likely get www.patchmanmusic.com in on the game cause then they could make patches for it also and theyd list in and promote it on their site.

and as i said before if we post about this on the windlist you'll get a huge flock of wind controller players.

Should i go ahead and post about this on the wind list? i dont wanna do so before asking, but now that its a public beta its a public beta right? for everyone?

Really interesting!...any chance to have a mac osx version?

Post

oh sorry, i forgot...nice demos greg and zio. its really steps forward in modeling when you have something like this that when different players play it you can hear their personalities in the sound, that tells you that reality is being approached here.
