Where are you guys getting all this yamaha - hardware - cubase stuff anyway.
I must have missed something.
I would welcome a computer that had an OS dedicated to making music. I would love to see us all use something other than windows for our daw. Something like might be in the future.
Someone creates a OS that runs VSTi's and whatever host... nice and stable... and fast!

i can see this plan being of benefit to retailers. customers would either buy the $150 version or have to spend $600 for SX if they want a more serious feature set. however, from at least this customer's perspective, having the option of cubase SL was great thing. it does everything i need it to and at a price that was much more affordable than SX.Uncle E wrote: What I'm hoping is that Nuendo Semi Pro will actually be SX while Nuendo Music Production will be SX bundled together with all the plugs because there really shouldn't be anything between SX & SE.

My feeling about this is that Yamaha/Steinberg are trying to emulate the FL Studio model, where there are 4 versions of FL Studio. In my opinion, FruityLoops Edition and Express have so little features compared to Producer that they are not worth it. You basically can't do shit in FruityLoops Edition and in Express, you really have little room to maneuver.ugo wrote:i can see this plan being of benefit to retailers. customers would either buy the $150 version or have to spend $600 for SX if they want a more serious feature set. however, from at least this customer's perspective, having the option of cubase SL was great thing. it does everything i need it to and at a price that was much more affordable than SX.Uncle E wrote: What I'm hoping is that Nuendo Semi Pro will actually be SX while Nuendo Music Production will be SX bundled together with all the plugs because there really shouldn't be anything between SX & SE.

I don't think that many pepole will pay for a stripped-down version of Cubase. Most of the lower versions come bundled with other things and are made to hook noobs onto the Cubase system and then bascially force them into SX3 as they get more advanced

I think they are going after Apple/Logic, especially after making the seemingly inocuous announcement that they are going to continue development for Mac/Intel. A Nuendo based sequencer with highend native instruments and effects that will be cross-platform.

Actually that's pretty much exactly how the company's position was described to me two years ago by someone in it.ericj23 wrote:jesus what paranoid drivel

Interesting analysis - although there are things we aren't privy to - eg Steinborg may have some conditions on their ownership. They may - for example - have said that under no circumstances may Charlie be led naked through the streets in front of the fanboys if there are more than 1000 bugs in any new release. Stuff like that.

But you can't really crap on a product until you get the people who really support it foaming at the lips. Really, really irate supporters puts off more software customers than just about anything else. I base my performance on Ian Hunter. All Anticubase alien boy.bluedad wrote:ain't that the truth! lol!kritikon wrote:I wonder what the opposite to "fanboy" is? "Hateboy"? Because the hateboy comments are just a silly as any fanboy ones. The Apple computer is a non issue. Apple is about iPods and music and movies. And the best is yet to come.bugs wrote:I think they are going after Apple/Logic, especially after making the seemingly inocuous announcement that they are going to continue development for Mac/Intel. Mr Jobs is the only one who's seen the whole game. He sells the softs. You make the music. He sell your music. Where's the need for copy protection? Audio software? Tommorrow belongs to Apple.
And I am a PC user.

Sure - I have owned a licence to SX since well before Pinnacle bought Steiny. Steinberg negotiated some conditions with Pinnacle and if a contract is structured by someone with a law degree the new purchasers would also be bound. This certainly applies in law in my country - if you put a caveat into a contract of sale, the caveat transfers to subsequent owners. So the "no naked Charlie" clause would still stand. And there would be reciprocal obligations - eg Charlie can't quit Steinberg, take all his staff and source code and open up in a new building and start selling a new product called Cueboss the next week. His key personnel probably have golden handcuffs etc . These condtions of the sale to Pinnacle would have transferred to Yamaha too.HanafiH wrote:Steinberg didn't sell Steinberg. Pinnacle did.

1. YAMAHA will acquire all of Steinberg Media Technologies’ common stock from Pinnacle Systems.
2. YAMAHA will acquire Steinberg’s US sales business operated by Pinnacle*.
* YAMAHA plans for its wholly owned US sales subsidiary Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA) to oversee US sales of software developed by Steinberg.
3. The total acquisition amount is $28.5M. This acquisition will be effective in late January 2005 after the necessary legal steps were all taken.
With the acquisition of Steinberg, YAMAHA plans to further promote the Studio Connection initiative and realize seamless technical integration of hardware, such as synthesizers and digital mixers, and software. Another goal of the acquisition is to expand the market by making it easier for both general users and professionals alike to create music in a broad variety of genres.

What are you trying to say? That lawyers use words like ALL with a loose interpretation when publishing statements to stock holders?egbert wrote:What are you trying to say here - do you think those are the full terms of the agreement? You must be joking.

So can Charlie open a competing company next week and sell something called Cuboss or not? Can Yamaha parade him naked through the streets as part of owning his ass or not?HanafiH wrote:What are you trying to say? I expect he could open any kind of new company, although I expect he retains financial incentives against doing so. Parading him through the streets naked? I would expect he has his price.egbert wrote:So can Charlie open a competing company next week and sell something called Cuboss or not?
