piano question...again

couple of days or even weeks ago I asked about techniques on how to get the sound of a hip-hop sytle piano. I was listening to some coltrane and miles davis today and the piano in those tracks sound a lot like vintage piano samples used in hip-hop tracks. I'm just curious if thats the sound hip-hop style pianos are supposed to make. Anyways can anyone please guide me on how to get the sound of a piano used in coltrane plus davis tracks?

I would try an eq, just filter out hi's and lo's. You could also put it through a guitar amp sim like simulanalog to really limit the range of frequencies.

Anything else like tape sims could help "age" the sound a bit...
