You vant to be using a vocoder, in which you couple a vocal input with a synth input. I usually comes as an effect or it can be built into a synth.

It's no Vocoder. It's a variation of the "Cher-Effect".
You can do this with Antares Autotune. If you need it only for fun it's too expensive.
Another way to make such voice-raping is a manual process. I did it for a friend two years ago. The song hasn't been released finally ( I hope it was not my fault! ).
Cut a phrase into very small snippets. Shift the single snippets some cents up or down. At last smoothen it with a filter. It's a hard patience-proving work and it takes a lot of time until you have a satisfying result. If you make it right you have a similar effect.
Good luck!

One way to do it would be to run your voice through a lo pass filter, then through a ring modulator, then a flanger. Add more ring modulators, flangers and filters to taste.

It's a talk box that is used on the California Love track, which is based on the old Zapp and Roger track of the same name.
The talk box is a very distinctive sound and I've never personally heard a vocoder that could imitate it perfectly, but I'm sure you can get pretty close with some tweaking.

I don't believe in Talk-Box usage in this example. It was my first thought. Listening exactly you will hear steps. The typical Autotune sound when the program isn't yet decided what tune it is. Then the tune swaps. The Troutman bros have smooth, analogue progression. Take Autotune, use the graphical option!

You can achive this result with Yamaha's Pitch Fix plug. Hook up your midikeyboard within the host and play the notes like you want them. You'll find that it'll sound very much like the MP3 you posted. Not sure if there's a demo avaible, but have a look!
Anyway, Hope you get the result you are after

Yea, it's a talkbox on cali love, but a vocoder will do it just the same. Pick up the vocoder and talkbox VSTs by MDA (they're in the database and they're free). Put your vocals and a synth line on the same channel with the vocoder as an effect. THen you pan the vocals all the way to one side and the synth all the way to the other. The vocoder will take the vocals and modulate them with the synth. Hope that helps.[/url]

Pitch Fix is the same way Autotune works, but not so versatile.
Do we talk about "California Love"? There is used a Talk-Box, certainly! I think we talk about "I'm sprung". There is no Talk-Box used.

diversheat, I have to disagree on that. My personal experience tells me that Pitch Fix's MIDI controller part is much easier to control than Antares, when playing the vocalnotes, with the keys, in the Host, just like that MP3 sample in the topic.
Not sure about the later versions of Antares Autotuner though, but a couple of years ago it wasn't working that good when trying to Play (a'la vocoder way, but of course not soundwise) the vocal notes.

No sure what a "robot vocal" is, but I suspect you're talking about a "Cylon-like" voice, and in that case to use the text-to-speech AnalogX SayIt http://www.analogx.com/contents/downloa ... /sayit.htm could be a starting point. Otherwise, any vocoder, ring modulator, glitch etc. plug-in can produce some kind of a distorted efect is a voice track. I use mostly the 4ormulator Vocoder: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1164.html. Be sure to open the interface otherwise you'll not get any sound.
