The distant sound of a great big pileated woodpecker calling in the creek lowland forest downhill from the Ellis Home and Laboratories. Lots of trees still down from Hurricane Isabel over two years ago [September 2003]. Great place for woodpeckers to find a quick meal, even huge ones like the pileated.
