Wizoo W2 is truly astonishing, but...

I probably won't buy it because I find its timbre too harsh and middy. I may try eqing it some and see if I can get anywhere.
It's one of the best digital reverbs I've heard, though, in terms of creating an "enveloping" 3D space around instruments. Synth leads sound absolutley huge in W2's halls.

Pretty much, yea.Stupid American Pig wrote:so are you saying its astonishingly too harse and middy?
Although I think I'm getting used to the sound of it. Maybe I'm just nit picking because I really like the realism and deepness of the sound so I'm miffed that it has some aspects that annoy me.
But in the world of plugin reverb, we can't have it all, now can we?
Haven't tried any IR's but the demos. Don't they have to be special ones, or does Wizoo take any IR and use it for the "hybrid" algo/impulse thing that it does?

Have you played at all with the internal eq ? I just ask because well you have not loaded any IR's... Sort of like taking a car for a test drive but not leaving the parking lot. It really is a great convo device and well worth the $200 street price. A big second on the SpiritCanyon stuff, but really ANY audio file could lead to really cool results.

If all it is is a convo player then I can have SIR for free. I was under the impression it used some kind of special hybrids or models based on IR's so I wasn't thinking in terms of loading someone elses IR's in.loophead wrote:Have you played at all with the internal eq ? No. It uses a combination of High Definition (whatever that means!) impulses, and a very nice sounding traditional algorithmic reverb. The programs can use either method or a combination of both.Frippertronix wrote:If all it is is a convo player then I can have SIR for free.
I'm really liking this reverb, and considering purchasing it.

Thanks for the info. I'll defintely go back and do some more tweaking. Bottom line is, unless I want to shell out for something like a PoCo Firewire, Wizoo is among the best available. I hate to say it but I'm not on the Arts Acoustic bandwagon.

Sadly, Fripper...what you probably need, is something more like this...
PianoSpace
Thrown together rather quickly whilst in a semi-stuporous, largely unconscious state of being...but you'll get the idea. I rather cheekily used Wizoo's piano mp3 for a source.

Would love to hear some examples if anyone gets a chance.kahrayzee wrote:Using the Spirit Canyon IRs with Wizooverb is like getting a host of new and strange plugins...
edit: can I actually load IRs in the demo?? I'l give it a go.

I've been playing with the demo as well and really liking this reverb. I am not a fan of the Arts Acoustic reverb or Masterverb, although I'm sure either would be ok in a mix.
W2 also gets a stellar review in the latest SoS, " would be nice if it came with more IRs, but otherwise no real cons".
I just wish it was available for purchase online. If it was, I would already own it.

One aspect to keep in mind is that Wizoo is now Digidesign. Well, I have no information about what consequences there will be, but I hardly believe that it will be supported furthermore for VST/AU platforms...

Ok, answered my own question. I loaded some of the Spirit Canyon demo IRs into the W2 demo and yes, it is pretty cool. Then I started loading a bunch of my own audio files in W2 and in Kontakt - yeah, this could get addictive.polyslax wrote:Would love to hear some examples if anyone gets a chance.kahrayzee wrote:Using the Spirit Canyon IRs with Wizooverb is like getting a host of new and strange plugins...
