AT LAST!! Adobe Audition 2 info

From what you're saying, perhaps buying directly from the Adobe store is not the best option. As I said previously I have ordered from Amazon UK. From their email updates I know that it came into stock on 27th (the actual launch date they announced two weeks ago), my order was processed on 28th, it was posted today, and should be with me on Wednesday.

I bought 1.5 from the Adobe store and it shipped the same day. I still haven't got an email, but they charged my account, which they said on the phone they wouldn't do until they shipped, so I am assuming it's coming.

Here's a hoot though, like I said I got my taxes on Friday, I ordered a new pair of Beyerdynamic DT770s, my other ones are now ten years old (770s also, I have a par of MDR7506s and Audio Technica ATH M40fs too). My other 770s still work fine, but they are old and the earpads are shot and 40 bux, so I treated myself to new ones...ordered Friday, arrived today...go figure

My Audition 2.0 upgrade box arrived today, and I'm pretty impressed

The manual is indeed excellent, and is much more readable than before. I don't think that any additional book will be required here. When I bought Audition 1.5 18 months ago I also bought the really good Richard Riley book and the frankly not very good Audition Ignite! book. But the manual with this version looks to be much more readable and layed out in a manner that fits around musical activities more logically. Very nice.

I was surprised that there are 4 discs in the box... the Loopology I almost didn;t install because I already had it, but then read on the forum that the content is expanded. To my shock I discovered when I had installed it that it had eaten more than 4GB of my laptop's memory. Very good quality stuff though... but I'm not sure if I will keep it all installed in the medium term because there's a lot of styles/genres that I doubt I'll ever use (Bossa nova, anyone? )

And then there are two discs of training videos which I've yet to explore. Should be interesting...

The final nice little surprise is that when you register you can select from a range of free gifts, which include an Izotope Tube-Modelled Compressor plugin. I gave this little one a test and it's very good - a single channel version of the multiband compressor basically.

Anyone else got their box yet?

I don't know which book you didn't get much from Hink, but in all fairness the Richard Riley one was a massive help to me. It was the first book related to Music Technology that I actually bought, but the clarity of the text and layout were very helpful to me at that stage in a gernal sense, as well as specific to Audition.

That was based on Audition 1.0 of course... but I reckon that if he updates it for version 2 the world will be a better place.

for the author I would have to hunt for it now....but it was red and called "Using Audition 1.5"...it had some helpful things, but very little more than the manual that came with 1.5....funny too because I have a file box right next to me now, in there are all my manuals I use often...(old stuff isn't in there)..my 1.5 manual is there...

I don't know a book that meets your description Hink. The 1.5 manual IS very useful... but as a reference guide. The good thing with the Richard Riley book... (which is called "Audio Editing with Adobe Audition") is that it has a narrative-type layout. The 2.0 manual is more like this, which makes me think that a seperate book may be unecessary.

1.5 had been getting less and less use of late... but 2.0 will be getting centre stage along with Live 5. It is a massive improvement.

They actually work very well together. THere are three particular ways to interface the two:

1. As you probably know you can set Audition 2.0 as your default external editor from within Live's preferences, and so long as you have done that any audio clip you are using in Ableton can be automatically opened up in Audition simply by clicking "Edit" in the clip properties. Once your editing is done in Audition, save and close the file and the new version will be inserted back into your Live project.

2. You could use Live as a rewire slave within Audition. I find this less attractive, and you do need to freeze all the VST tracks within Live first.

3. A finished track in Live can be exported as a 32-bit .wav file ... and then opened up in Audition's edit view for some final mastering touches, converted to mp3 or dithered down to 16-bit and burnt to CD.

Although I have tried this both ways around in the last couple of days, I think that for multitrack audio recording I still slightly prefer to use Ableton as the main host, because that way I can use Warp Markers to easily correct minor timing issues, while still accessing all of Audition's power by using the Edit view as described in step 1 above. Then follow step 3 for mastering and finishing off.

Alternatively though, I do like the fact that in Live you can select all the clips in a track in Arrangment View, right click and select "Consolidate" to convert to a single full length clip. By exporting each full-track you can then mix in Audition. This is an alternative I plan to try!
