HI there,
I'm checking out Sonar ATM and I would like to get a quick how-to as I'm a Nuendo2 user which basically is Cubase SX2. Is there something like that out there? Thanx in advance.
Best wishes, FRitz

Dunno, I've been a Cakewalk user since the DOS days and never messed even with Cubasis much. But I'll bet the people on the Sonar boards would be able to give advice and maybe a specific platform-change guide.
Disregard the recent thread, they're mostly fine folks there, same as here and everywhere else.

I'm sure there are lotsa nice people. Like everywhere. I would ask there but when I wanted to register the starting text said that it's for Sonar users. Well, not that I'm a Sonar user, right? I'm only interested to check it out right now. So I'm not sure if that would be OK. I'll check it out anyway.
All the best, FRitz

Do I understand you right that you wanna tell me that Sonar is complicated even with simple tasks?

There are a bunch of Cakewalk sponsered free SONAR tutorial videos that you can play/download, from the Cakewalk site. I downloaded and saved them all to my SONAR tutorial folder, for future reference. All the videos (even the SONAR 4 ones) are applicable to SONAR 5.

I think what he's saying is that Sonar is BETTER than Cubase.fritzman wrote:Huh?Beardedone wrote:Well now you just have get used to not have to twist you body all up in knots to do simple tasks. Welcome to sanity!

Would you say about 20-40% better, Beardedone?

I think he means the opposite. Not that I found myself twisting my body up in knots doing simple tasks in Cubase most of the time (well, maybe at the weekends, but that's between my PC and me).fritzman wrote:Huh?Beardedone wrote:Well now you just have get used to not have to twist you body all up in knots to do simple tasks. i'm glad you like Sonar, Gordon..but I have never understood all the hate and vitriol you spew towards Cubase. It fits me like a glove.Beardedone wrote:Well now you just have get used to not have to twist you body all up in knots to do simple tasks. Welcome to sanity!

It would be best not to spiral into another host vs host thread. No reason it has to.

Moving to Sonar from Nuendo 2 (best version of Cubase/Nuendo btw) will lead you to some pros and cons...
Cons (when moving to Sonar from Cubase)
- No audio pool
- No native VST support
- No inbuilt audio editing
Pros (when moving to Sonar from Cubase)
- More / better plugins and synths
- Built in vocal correction
- Some very flexible features that Cubase doesn't have
- No dongle
- Better support than Steinberg (but then again, you would get that moving to any other host since Steinberg support is the worst I've seen)
- More customizable
Things that you may LOVE or HATE
- Workflow is totally different in Sonar, I could never adapt to it
- On my P4, I found that Sonar consumed significantly more power doing the exact the sings that Cubase did.
- The GUI of Sonar is very "busy", there are a million icons, each of the menus contains a million entries, Cubase shows you functions as you need them, which I personally prefer. Again, this is something you will have to decide on.
If I were you, I would stick with Nuendo 2 forever, or until Steinberg prove themselves again, v2 was top notch for Steinberg products.
Cheers

Yeah; especially if you shelled out $1200 for it!soundpalace wrote:If I were you, I would stick with Nuendo 2 forever, or until Steinberg prove themselves again, v2 was top notch for Steinberg products.
And Nuendo 3 is even better. Best yet, for sure. Very happy with it at work.

yes good point bduffy, fritz would have spent a lotta cash grabbing nuendo. I forgot to mention that the post production features and video features in nuendo will blow away Sonar so if that's why you bought Nuendo, then you're better off sticking to it.
bduffy have you noticed the bug in v3 of Nuendo or Cubase that resets the mixer position every time you open it ? i.e. big project of 60 tracks, open mixer, scroll to track 50, close mixer and reopen, it scrolls back to track 1. This was introduced in 3.1. How do you deal with it ? I'm finding it so annoying right now
