Hello, this post is mainly for the BetaBugs programmer, but also for other guys that maybe are already aware of this problem and know some solution
(I know there's a Betabugs official forum, but I think there's far more audience here, developer included :)).

The whole story is here at Cakewalk forum:

http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=694341

but in short the problem is:

Betabugs W1 limiter alters randomly its settings in the UI in Sonar 5.0.1.
I mean: tweak the parameters,
close the plug window, do other things, reopen the plug window; the parameter values show completely wrong, though the plugin still sounds right.
Of course starting to tweak again with the UI makes the plugin sound using the parameter values displayed.
The problem does not arise when settings are at the min or max.

Other users @cake forum are experimenting the same problem, even with other hosts like Adobe Audition.

Maybe there's been some patch update to the plugin in the meanwhile?

Final question for the developer: is the complete BugPack available @ the betabugs site updated to include the last version of all plugins?

Thanx ad many greetings and kudos to Betabugs for some really great plugins!!!

i couldnt even get the betabug version to work in sx. the original version worked ok though.

i've had bugs with the betabugs w1 as well that I mentioned to george but i'm not sure if they got fixed or not.

hmmm...

I don't know the extent to which George is supporting this. Check out the GUI-less version and see if the same problems persist.

BugPack hasn't been updated. At some point we need to do another BugPack!

I've had the same problem in Energy XT. (parameters seem to reset themselves). That's the only betabugs plug that I can recall ever having any problems with. What a really nice set of tools.

The only person who can fix any problems is George Yohng. He's a helpful chap, but also very busy. Of course it'd be cool to see the BBA version working in all hosts, but since it's the actual performance of the W1 that's the main thing, I suggest giving the GUI-less version a try, found on Yohng.com. Great limiter!

This thing always crashes Orion

The problem with GUI also appears sometimes in Podium.

The weird GUI stuff also happens in Samplitude.

Again, I can only reiterate that the only person who can help is George. ;) I only mention it so that you know that each BBA plug-in is ultimately the 'responsibility' of its respective developer. I can't speak for George, of course, but I'd imagine that to start with he'd recommend you switching to the GUI-less version (it's the sound that's ultimately the most important thing, and W1 sounds GREAT!) in order to be enjoying the plug-in now rather than later.

Yeah, the GUI version works fine in SX & Wavelab over here.

I've noticed this with other betabugs stuff in Sonar5.01 but passed it off as me being nuts, until I read this. I'm pretty sure some other betabugs plugs don't remember their settings in a project when you save and reload, I've not noticed if its just the GUIs reverting to default or if the whole settings changed. i will keep an eye out in the future, though I seem to recall chorrosive and widebug might have been the problem ones. I haven't tried the W1 because I use the GUIless version as I find it's level readings more useful!

interestingly even Pentagon I, bundled with Sonar5, doesn't even save its settings properly

While there are a few programmers who have taken advantage of the "revolving door" policy we have at BBA (and therefore aren't at the BBA site proper as often), you're certainly welcome to post any found bugs at our forum (The "Bughouse") and we'll do our best.
