Ok, yes - sorry, back on topic now :D

ääähh....this was actually not to be taken as joke. i really never did anything in delphi - so i don't have clue...however...i will now go on and implement allpass-filters for the individual oscillators in addtion to the HPF/LPF-pair - as i have noticed, that a real 303-square looks like an allpass-filtered square-wave (the same for the saw).

hi braindoc
Aggressor *does* live up to it's name :hihi:
this is a VERY "in your face" raw sounding synth. I like it a lot, so thanks for this very useable demo!
Just one thing though: Live 5.0.3 apparently doesn't like the way the banks load...crashes the program every time. HOWEVER, it runs just fine in eXT (beta 1.4v 6 jan 2006) and I can host Aggressor inside eXT>inside Live. Live let's the bank load very slowly when it's wrapped in eXT, but it does load and works fine (though it is taking about 10% CPU hit on my AMD 64 3500+ ...not HUGE, but...)
running it in eXT by itself, the CPU hit is nearly nothing...don't know if that helps you
all said- this is a really cool synth and I'm off to futz around with some of the vst freebies from your site!
Thanks again

i also see a gui-flickering when loading banks in other hosts - it seems to me, that the synth skips throuh all the patches in the bank. mmmhhh. as for the CPU usage: it strongly depends on the particular patch - if you have just one oscillator running, it is very low. but if you run all 3 oscs (maybe with several voices on osc1), apply modulations, the moog/303-filter (which is oversampled by a factor of 10) and tanh-distortion (which is oversampled by 4) - then the cpu-load must go higher

hope ya like it! I do and I would like to *love* it, but due to it's weird loading behavior in Live (plus the CPU hit...) I'm not there yet...
aggressor has a VERY unique sound and some really inventive and deep programming aspects. It's definitely on the watch list :hihi:
check out braindoc's other plugs as well!

Hello

tested in FL Studio 5.02 and got 100% cpu usage with FL randomize function. Also when tweaking Main Volume and Velocity knobs hear clicks. It seems to be great synth but till now I couldn't enjoy it in FL :(

uh oh... randomize can be dangerous. for example, the range of the unison-parameter for osc1 goes up to 127 voices (here i was overly generous). there is also a hidden parameter for the oversampling of the moog-filter model which goes up to 64. such settings can be extremely cpu intensive. i did not take into account randomizing when deciding about the parameter ranges. i get cpu-loads of about 2-6 % in FL 6.0.8 for average presets (athlon 64 3200+)...mmmhhh, clicks - i can't recproduce this. äähh, but one moment - i'm working with a newer version (which will be online soon)...but also for the old version a 100% cpu load will be most likely attributable to unreasonably high settings of some parameters.

btw.: there are many other parameters with large ranges (not only those which affect the cpu), so aggressor can be set up to very extreme settings - so randomize might be not recommendable. it is a kind personal philosophy to not restrict the parameter ranges too much, as i assume an intelligent and responsible user who tweaks them and i also want some freedom for parameter tweaking when i work with my plugIns myself.

If agressor is not too expensive and works in a stable manner in forte as well as cubase, I may have to pick it up.

Is there any general idea for a release date yet?

Post

i just uploaded a new version of aggressor:

http://www.braindoc.de/vst/Aggressor.zip

what's new:
-better oscillator quality (anti-aliasing)
-random detuning for the unison-mode in osc1
-allpass-filters (apf's) for all the oscillators
-adjustable DC-offset before the filter (makes sense only for the nonlinear moog- and 303-filters)
-osc3 parameters are now available (they were formerly hidden as demo-restriction)

...so there are basically no restrictions anymore for the free version. i think if i should go commercial with aggressor some day, i will make it polyphonic.

Thanks, braindoc! aggressor and Live6 beta don't seem to get along either...but wrapping in eXT does the trick again
ridiculous unison you can get with this, but turn the density up and cpu takes a pounding  ...btw- thanks for the 3rd osc, but even with 2 two it is plenty aggressive :D
