I was wondering why there aren't rtas to vst wrappers--I understand the legal aspects and that digidesign might want to keep plugs for pro tools out of the hands of those of who use a different DAW, but is it theoreticly possible to wrap up an rtas plug to use on say cubase or a DAW that uses vst plugs.--

sorry if this question has been asked but I couldn't find it in the search. I'm just curious if it could be done and then why it hasn't, it seems that everyone would benifit from it.

Would you put champagne in a plastic cup? :hihi:
That's what DigiDesign thinks of it I think...

There are open standards (lik VST) and closed ones. Sometimes the bridges are never built, not because nobody wants it but because of business politics.

since it horrendously overpriced champagne, you'd be better of using the VST standard.

P.S.: I have no idea, but guess the legalities are why there's no such thing.

Just wondering, but why would you want to do that?? ProTools plugin suck ass and even if they don't, they can be replicated and made even better by about a hundred VSTs. There would be no market for an RTAS-VST adapter.

Thanks for your less-than-informed opinion.

Yes that's a big reason, apart from having to pay a hefty price for the SDK which comes with an agreement forbidding such action. Personally, the only thing greener on that side of the fence is being able to run the BF La2a/1176 and Pultec natively in my opinion, and even then you can better that with a UAD card for around same price. Apart from that,it would probably only benefit those who have PTLE and another host and want the convenience,so it would amount to a lot of work and not much payoff. This probably would have been a big deal about 3 years ago,but now it would be next to meaningless as far as whats availible fot VST. It's usefullness has long past.

I'd like an rtas to vst just so I could use Moogerfoogers.

I didn't mean for this to be about wether pro tools sucks or not. There are great developers who only do plugs for rtas/ protools--Mc Dsp for example, they do do a vst package but not for pc, and there are great ones who just do native stuff. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this would be cool if it were done. I think it would move the industry closer to using one source, hopefully vst, instead of a bunch of different formats
