No - a good question.

That's the whole point of this premiere collection - it doesn't need any further processing. If your track is really sounding like a piece of shite, substitute the track with one of the extensive 'Pre-compressed Interactive Silent Spaces' (PISS™) and the crud in your mix will just disappear.

I am hoping to licence this to BBC Radio 1 and several local FM stations to strap across their output transmitters - this would prove that quality samples can benefit the human condition.

A leading local DJ who has been beta-testing this product for us says of the process:

"it's fcukin amazing! rispekt! wen i do wedding receptions and kids birthday parties and use these PISS samples instead of 'agadoo' and 'the birdie song', the effect is wiked man - everyone goes to the bar so i is well rispektd by the landlord. i got a repeat booking for a stag nite next week an im gonna let these samples rip"

Praise indeed I think and shows that we're right on track for delivering a focused product for the market demographic.

Thank you for your interest in Hollow Sun products.

Thanks, Steve. Impressive indeed. I only wish your product was available over here during the CBC lockout. Not only would it have calmed the nation, it would have saved incompetent managers the tedium of having to re-broadcast the same BBC Radio 1 shows over and over. And saved me the uncertainty of which side of the road to drive on.

"Quality samples can benefit the human condition."
I think you have a catchy slogan in the making. But then again, perhaps it's better if your samples speak for themselves.
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

Steve,

Fantastic! May I have permission to copy parts of your post to another forum?

a friend of a friend was a beta-tester and I have to tell you that I've never heard silences like the ones featured on this collection. Never. An infinite amount of care went into this.

But what about the sound of the computer?

Bit of a technical question here. Will Golden Silence samples compress best with variable rate silence? I, of course, prefer lossless silence, but sometimes hard drive space is at a premium on my 10 megabyte pre-RAID array.

May the silence be with you.

P.S.: Anyone out there OnePinged silence samples?

I was seriously considering the use of your Silent sample library for an upcoming project, but with the samples being only in stereo, and my studio being completely surround capable, I am concerned that behind and beside me things will 'sound' a bit like a black hole, really. Are there plans for a 5.1 surround library?

For many users, we recommend that they switch their computers off completely and not use them... ever! That way, we are all spared the unpleasant noise(s) that comes from them.

Not at present but our engineers are working hard on modelling the phasey/flangey characteristics of the various surround sound formats to apply to our 'Golden Silence' samples.

We have so far managed an FFT modelling process that yields stomach churning bass response from our silences that you get through the sub-woofer. However, the enigmatic haze provided by the rear speakers (especially when you are not in the 'sweet spot') is proving harder to emulate.

hmmm.. It's so quiet I'm getting denormals playing that mp3. That's impressive. I hope that my sampler can do justice to the sounds crossfading between the samples.

Is there any sampler you would recommend so that I don't get aliasing when doing large pitchbends? Do you rate sfz at all? (After all, playing Golden Silence at sforzando levels should be good for clearing the passages).

Are there any phase problems I should be aware of before purchase? I really want to get the best out of this pack.

As always, my recommendation would be an Akai S5/6000 which uses a high quality 16-point Lagrange interpolation (compared with the crude linear interpolation employed by software samplers). Alternatively, a Z-series would do a good job

All the stereo samples are perfectly phase coherent. That will go out the window, however, should we choose to release the surround sound version!

will the surround do the full holophonix thing - I mean, I want to hear that silence swirling around above my head, then skin down below the bridge I'm standing on :)
