Your room mics on BFD add 'reverb'.

Sorry - I listened to the demos - couldn't hear any difference to spend that kind of money on one plug. All ears are different - maybe mine are just dull I guess.

To have a high quality hardware reverb unit in your outboard gear rack is one of those things that nearly every pro/semi-pro studio owner I know either has or wants. Project studios sometimes have them and sometimes don't. I mean, I've had Roland SRVs and Lexicons in my project studios over the years but never the full on 3000 or 480L, AMS etc. that you see in top studios. If I was going to spend thousands of dollars on outboard gear it'd be on class A and tube mic pres, compressors etc first.
What excites me about CSR is that it offers that same high end powerful reverb quality and programmability that you get from units like that but as with software the relative price is just so much more "in reach" for anyone's studio (whether it is even a top studio with a ProTools rig or your very own project studio). To me it is a winner because if you don't already have a high end hardware reverb in your set up then this is a good substitute at a much lower price. If you already do have one then still it is handy to have within the virtual studio environment and the again the price is not relatively that much more to have it. (I have to add ESPECIALLY if you own ANY IK commercial or OEM product since they ALL qualify for the discounted "crossgrade" version of CSR for the launch which is only a few hundred bucks).
An algo reverb is a certain sound and the programmbility is also a big part of what makes it different from a convolution reverb. It is also less CPU intensive. I happen to like both types of reverbs. I have AltiVerb which I have had for a long time and always thought it was cool technology. I have Space Designer as well in my Logic set up. These are all really great tools! But, they're different. Not to be missed is the sound of the Hall and Plate of CSR. The Room is pretty cool (although like Beardedone I happen to like REAL rooms as much as possible) and the Inverse is pretty interesting for effects. In fact, all of CSR can be very useful for special effects because of the deep modulation matrix. Cool for ambient music as well.
Look, talking about reverbs is not my passion or anything. It is just another important piece of the studio puzzle for having a setup to be able to produce high quality recordings without the need of a massive recording budget from a label as far as a lot of people are concerned.
Here's a link to it on esoundz where it is on "pre-order" but we should have boxes to ship some time toward the end of next week I believe. http://www.esoundz.com/details/viewDeta ... uctID=1343
If you own Philharmonik that CSReverb is a good "taste" of the quality of it (but not the programmability aspect and the variety of presets which is a big part of it as well). Anyway, my advice is to pick up the cheapest possible IK product so that you qualify for the crossgrade discount (which saves you almost half price). If you own ProTools, Mackie Tracktion or Spike, Emu cards, the latest Sonar and other products that come with AmpliTube LE or SampleTank SE you already qualify for the crossgrade.

Me too. This product could be one of those staple IK pieces like TRackS. I love TRackS myself (I even bought one of the very first versions that had a serial port dongleharmony gardens wrote:Thanks for posting that Squids. I'm excited about this one.
Anyway, I have no doubt that CSR will be a studio musician and engineer's favorite, amongst some other really great effect plug-ins out there. It just gets better and better doesn't it? I am looking forward to that Waves SSL plug bundle as well... same reason really! I always wanted to have that stereo buss compressor but it wasn't on the top of my list because of the price so... if this is affordable then it is a nice solution. My UAD card is a surrogate Pultec and 1176, LA2A... I mean, the real thing would be NICE, believe me. I have some in hardware. But, I just remember being in Shelly Yakus' studio years ago and looking at probably the largest collection of Pultecs in the world and thinking "It must be nice to be able to insert one on every track". Well, in software you can get close to that with the UAD and I think that sort of thing is awesome. So, IK's TRackS and CSR fit into that need well. Good stuff to have in your set up.

I've heard his stuff. It's pretty damn good. Considering he's making a living at doing what he makes, I'd say he needs it.snooky wrote:I'd love to hear what kind of music all that expensive gear makes...care to lemme hear any?MacQ wrote:With CSR on order, I've now got the UAD Plate, WaveArts MasterVerb, ArtsAcoustic reverb, and the Powercore reverbs. Hopefully this'll be it for reverbs for a while ... still cheaper than a 480L.![]()

Just because it says "Highquality" on it doesn't mean it is...we'll see what it sounds like when it comes out..until then it's just another big hype up

@snooky: true words, but if any plug-in looks like being professional, it is the IK CSR, because it is the first reverb that has as much (and also the right) parameters as real big hardware reverb units...
okay there are some other plugs with as many parameters as CSR( Spinaudio ), but hey: these are not the classic parameters we all know from the hardunits... and the sound results are also quite strange....
many reverbs plugs sound the same, even if you take the next algo. Room sounds like a hall with short reverb tail, or a hall sounds like a room with expanded reverb tail. I hate that...
The IK CSR seems to help out of the desaster with flexibility and soundquality and it is expected to work as a reverb is supposed to work.
I´ve taken their dry flute sound demo from their homepage and tried to reverberate it with my plugs, and no other did that "sound-goes-deep-into the-speaker-effect.
its not just the density, it is also the eq-ing of the reverb tail over the time..
Try it yourself, take your headphones and listen exactly to the reverb character and then try another....
I won`t say this plug-in is going to beat everything out there, but at least I can say it`ll be a very flexible and good sounding plug, hopefully good enough for my taste.
we`ll see ( or should I say hear ) soon.

You doubt that it is high quality? Why wouldn't it be?Squids wrote:Me too. This product could be one of those staple IK pieces like TRackS. I love TRackS myself (I even bought one of the very first versions that had a serial port dongleharmony gardens wrote:Thanks for posting that Squids. I'm excited about this one.years ago). But, I am amazed when I learn about the engineers that swear by it. Take someone like Roger Nichols for example. He came by the IK booth last year to tell me he uses a lot of IK software. That's just cool! Also, guys like John Shanks who produces Alanis, Michelle Branch, Melissa Etheridge or Ross Hogarth who engineers for REM, the new John Fogerty album and is in the studio right now with Ziggy Marley LOVES this stuff. He can't wait for CSR (and was blown away by Studio ProFiles at the show too which made me feel a sense of accomplishment). If you go to the Namm news on www.ikmultimedia.com you can hear a lot of different players say it in their own words. They don't HAVE to do it, they don't get paid to do it either. They just love the software and want to tell why they like it. When we did the sample session with John Blackwell he went on and on about how much he loves TRackS and Sonik Synth. So, I guess some of those sounds are making their way onto Prince albums. (I am changing my name to the Artist Formerly Known As Squids
).

Of course it is. I don't think there are many people who doubt that. But, whether it has the sound and benefits you are looking for is another story. That's down to each person's tastes and nothing anyone else says will be the definitive word. I am just offering my perspective and positive viewpoint on it.

It really doesn't take that much experience to hear how good the demo clips sound. However, I'm always sceptic when it comes to audio demos. You never know what the thing was really run trough. I'll wait for the demo.
