Bottom line guys haha...which is better and give reasons...GPO or east west packages?

I don't think there is a bottom line. How do you construct songs? What type of music are you trying to compose? What is your budget? Which do you like the sound of when comparing online demos? There are many factors.

As for broad statements (going on what I have read since I don't own GPO, but do own EWQLSO Gold):

EWQLSO - sampled instruments in place and with natural hall ambience. Choose either solo all sections, more emphasis on sections. Programs contains keyswitches for differing articulations. Sounds good straight out of the box. Offers three levels, silver, gold adds chromatic sampling, platinum adds surround capabilities at 24 bit.

GPO - build your own section sizes, ultimate control on instrument placement within virtual sage. Controller setup promotes expressive playing.

All this can easily be researched. Sorry if I've only confused matters but that's the way I see it, each has their own strengths. Ultimately I liked the sound of gold better.

would you say you get more for your money for GPO? GPO comes with quite a few programs to help ya out including a konakt player. Does gold come with anything like that?

thanks for the reply...sorry for my broad question

I guess you could put it this way - EWQLSO Gold assumes to some extent that you know what you are doing. The provided literature is not that comprehensive, although you can request a very well written guide from East West. I'm still learning about the various articulations, what to use where, etc. I've had gold since late 2004 but I also don't think orchestral composition / arranging is something you can master overnight.

But no, apart from the Kompakt player there isn't much, in fact you lose some things that are offered in the silver version, choir, piano and organ sounds for instance. GPO seems to offer more of a complete package, check out their forum over at northernsounds.com to see how strong a community they have going, plenty of support.

Still havnig said all that I am well pleased with the results I'm achieving with Gold.
