I know this is a long shot, but it never hurts to ask.
The thing is I have be dying to get from Windows and over to Linux. The only thing that has stopped my so far was that I could get a decent host in Linux to host vst.
But today I found Tunafish runs so well under Wine and to my surprise many of my plugs also run under wine.....
But not Rhino, I tried the Receptor dll but I still got the same erro"This is not a valid vst".
Any chance you could look into this Tick

hmmm... that's strange... "this is not a valid vst" means the host is not even able to load the dll... maye you could try using syscalltracks and / or filemon+regmon under wine, to investigate what's going on a little bit further ?

Hmm I get an the error "invalid function when I try to load filemon and regmon, and I cant seem to find a deb package of syscalltrack

Small update, as the error seems to be a problem with Tunafish as well, if I loaded ext inside Tuna Rhino almsot loaded, I saw the window come up....but then it killed Tunafish

Is there a demo of Rhino available somewhere so I can see if I can find a fix for it? Virtually every plugin works with Tunafish right now so Rhino must be doing something a bit different..

Thanks for that. But unfortunately this demoversion works perfectly with Tunafish on Windows XP. So it's either some issue with Wine, or something which is unique to the registered version of Rhino. But I suspect it's the first which means I can't do much about it.. :(

If I remember right, he difference between the demo version and the registered version is a keyfile presence/contents, not a difference in the binary.

Is it possible the OP has a different version?

I'm guessing it has something to do with the copy protection. Wasn't 'tick the one that wrote that article about copy protection by dynamically modifying the program state with assembly (or something like that)? It might be a bit much for wine to handle...

That's correct.

That's correct as well. But this technique is not used in Rhino. :)
