Some good news!

I'm going to be interviewed this Friday by a local paper, The Marietta Daily Journal. Hopefully the article will generate some sales. :)

Also, we've had a few orders in the last couple days and a check for $100 was sent to us. We have about 320+ cds left so let's keep the orders coming!

ok...just now completed the interview! :)
It is slated for this Friday's edition and will be made available online on that day. I'll make sure to post a link here when Friday comes.

The interview went very well and she asked some really good questions so I'm hoping that the article will reflect the project well. The reporter seemed very empathetic, and indeed emphatic, about our project. It's got to be a pot of gold for her, wot with all the international collaboration and organization.

We should be proud, people!! We have done a great thing and talking to the reporter brought back all the memories and reaffirmed our purpose.

Keith,

Good news you shared. Marietta is a much bigger town that my hometown of Clarkston, so hopefully your interview will be the tipping point to get this ball finally rolling. It sort of turns my stomach to see that there are still so many of these on the shelf at cdbaby.com

My interview resulted in only one sale, as far as I can tell. I had all kinds of people tell me they read the interview, good job, etc. - but as far as I know, only one of them went ahead and bought the CD.

I did have more than one person tell me that the $25 was too costly for them. However, had we done a 1 disc project, CDbaby still keeps 4$, and we'd have to get pretty high volumes, would have had to cut songs, etc.

I think I'm going to give a go at setting up a myspace site for the KVR project to perhaps drive a few sales. Shoot, at the rate we are going, we can figure out all kinds of marketing schemes to sell 2 or 3 here and there.

Not to be a downer, but I have to say I'm disappointed with the actual non-pre-ordered sales. It's really too bad we couldn't have a live CD release party. One slight disadvantage of being a world-wide project.

I doubt my article will tip the scale, but hopefully we will see some orders from it. The journalist and photographer both seemed very hip and interested so hopefully the article will come out with appeal.

The myspace idea sounds great...why didn't we think of that already?

It is a bummer about the sales, but that was expected going into the project. The Resonance tsunami benefit cd had similar troubles. They didn't have preorders, but a vast majority, if not all, of those sales were generated from kvr.
I've had this in my head the whole time and that's why I've been pushing for the marketing all along the way. It would seem that the musician community here is no good at marketing, but perhaps that is not the case afterall. ;)

I don't mind the nickel and dime, but I don't know how to bump it to a dollar???

I forgot to address this point...
Glooper advised me of a production run of 200. When I went shopping around, most replicators do not even dabble with double cds (and if they do it's a pretty penny). Duplium was the best resource I found. They are proffesional (quality shows eh?), the cheapest, and were willing to work with me. Not only was the rate reduced, but they also agreed to run a 500 double cd replication (which is apparently a big deal and very noble of them to agree to do it as they specify a minimum of 1000). I asked about a 200 cd run and they said "well, we can produce 500 and throw 300 away and charge you the same price". I figured it would be better that the cds are sitting on the cdbaby warehouse shelf rather than some dumpster in Texas. It's weird how it all works. I'm sure that if we made a single disc the problems would be much less all around, but I'm glad we went two discs. :)

Scott, I don't mean to misinterpret your point. I know you made that statement from the aspect of cd sales and money generated for the cause. I just wanted to reiterate why the surplus exists.

Now let's get rid of it!!! :D

There's still reason to be optimistic about sales! It just takes the right people to create a sort of avalanche effect. We still have some airplay possibilities coming up as well as a joint Katrina marketing push with another *VERY* famous rock group (detail to be revealed at appropriate time ;) ).

Keep the faith and the signal fires brightly burning! :)

No more defeatist-type yapping or I'll gives yas all a good what for on yer wee tired bums!!! :P

**Keith -- excellent work mate :D After all, Marietta is nothing less than a giant suburb of Atlanta! :)

Aye, Marietta is my hometown...quite a few people there. ;)

I didn't mean to sound defeatist. I've still got my torch lit.

Ain't that a great song title? :D

Here however, hope is a thing that's about 50 feet long, has scales and breathes fire! :)

Did you know that in certain remote areas of Papua New Guinea, hope is a thing that slithers along the ground, eats frogs and is itself edible?

STFU Alex...

Just had an e-mail about the t-shirts from the t-shirt people.. looks like they've had problems over the last couple of months which is why they hadn't got back in touch.. But they're on the case now.. (better late then never)

but hopefully it means that t-shirts will be available soon!.. which might help marketing..

I was thinking about those shirts when I was about to be photographed for the paper.
Let us know when they come through (and definitly better late than never).
