Did you try singing the part through the peak controller? I'm not sure the peak controller is fast enough in real time. Maybe if you render to a wav file it will sound better.

Another thing to try is the FL keyboard controller. That way you can use the piano roll.

I agree with xoxos's last post. I still like b2 best for overall tone also. Hopefully we will have more options and more control over the model when it is released.

Singing through the peak controller to modulate the breath control was a great suggestion and seems to work well enough. I also linked the air noise to the peak controller using a log scale for the hell of it.

FL users can hear a quick demo of this method here...

Cool, I will have to try it out when I get home tonight.

Your demo sounded interesting. :)

Thank you Tony! There are no words to say you thank you! The song is amazing. I'll have a look at the midifile this evening and I'll see what else I can do to make MT more realistic.
No no no dont thank me, youll built the carriage , i'm just the part of the horse its hooked up to, and i guess that yamaha made the harness and the audence is the lady riding in the carriage. There, a complete metaphor!

Miles'tone is exciting, its fun to play and really has me checkin out the prices notebooks cause i wanna get it onstage for some fun things. Really as far as this kinda thing goes ive felt abandoned since the vl70m.

so a million thanks to you.

I was pondering the plight of the non BC bros....

and i thought it would be possible maybe to deal with it by having a carrier modulator approach.

you could have an audio input and have that converted to BC according to amplitude and then the player can plug in a mic and sing "tooo tooo ta ta ta do dooo doodle" etc. i imagine with a close mic someone could do the double and triple tongues and really get close.

im not a programmer, to me that sounds like a lot of coding tho.

i think midifier has the ability to covert input audio to controller, not sure tho and probably wacky to setup.

I really appreciate how wind controller friendly miles'tone is, its probably the most friendly plugin thats ever come out for wind controllers, many plugs are just plain hostile to us guys, mean, and its a fight just to get anything responding right.

With Miles'tone right out of the box its responding smoothly enough that the player can get his personality to come thru a little bit and thats the big deal holy grail about PM. Different players will have different sounds and personalities.

i could go on and on....

Post

Tony : could you post a screenshot of Milestone in your midi demo project to get the parameters right ?

Oh and what did you use to make the backing track ? Your mp3 is really amazing.

Ah, yes, being able to use a mic as at least to control the expression controller would be sweet.

But then you'd deal with the same problem that I did in synthedit--VSTis don't support audio ins, or at least in Sonar...

Post

Thank god I'm an FL user, linking an audio input to control any parameter with the FL Peak Controller is trivial :D

Keep up the good work Zio, I'll have $45 or so heading your way soon (for using MrRay, MrTramp and Effectiser and enjoying it so much).

If this thing is playable even without expensive controllers there'll be more coming :)

I coded a plug for translating incoming audio into MIDI CC last year: MIDIcinal. I'll dig it out and do a thread for ppl to try it. I'm curious about doing a bounce of a Miles'Tone track, then converting it to CC, then using that CC track as a BC input and seeing what it sounds like - a rather post-modern approach to it all, a trumpet half playing itself...

A screenshot off my 3 screen setup is always a mess.

the paramaters are

min expression: all the way down

max expression: almost all the way up

resonance: right under the "e" in "resonance"

breath noise: full

expression: cc2

thats it.

duncanparsons:

that would be great if you dug up that plug. Additionally theres a gap that could really be filled if you, or someone , could code a midi plugin that could remap cc's and pitchbend and also scale and smooth them, compression and expansion of pb and cc's with curve and scaling maps.

for me that would be incredibly useful.

My Photon X25's infrared dome thingee is great for playing Miles'Tone.
Being that I'm a sax player it sure makes me yearn for a breath controller!

I'm sure I can do that. Smoothing the CCs might be interesting.. there would be a latency involved, which would be user definable. Maybe if there was a threshold of the change in CC value allowed before which smoothing cuts in. (eg a change of upto 10 is allowed straight thru, after that a change is pushed through over say 5..50ms depending on user settings).

Also a waveshaper might be nice for adjusting the curves. remapping wouldn't be a problem, and rescaling isn't a hassle either, eg if you knew that your BC only worked reliably outputting values 20..87, that could be rescaled/mapped to 50..117, 15..127, or whatever.

I'll have a look into it :)

duncanparsons, I think about these things all the time.
I only wish I had a better grasp on the subject.
I can't wait to see what ya'll come up with.
