Quick Sonar VST Wrapper Question

When loading VST effects, when does one check the box that specifies the effect as tempo-based? Or is it supposed to be automatically detected? Or should you just check off the box for all VST effects? Any rule of thumb? It seems like a hit and miss affair and I'm not quite sure what the protocol is. Thanks!

Hiya, I think this has to be set up when you first scan your VSTs (or you can manually re-scan your VSTs at any time). When the list has been compiled, you can click on any of them and select the "Properties" button to set up specific properties for that plugin.
ORRRrrrrrr... you can go into the registry and edit them manually.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk VST Adapter\Inventory

If you're running v4.51 of the adaptor, you should be able to set it up a set of defaults for all the plugins in each folder you scan for plugins (a different set of defaults per folder). That can be done to do all your effects at the same time.
(If you're using an older version of the adaptor than (I think) 4.2, then you may not have the 'Configure as tempo-based effect' option, though. If that's the case, the only way to do it is to enable the effect as a synth!)
Alternately you can do them one at a time, as fandango says.
Or even more alternately, download

and run the program, which will enable all your plugins for tempo Sync. This wont work unless your wrapper version supports tempo, though.
If an effect is enabled for tempo but doesnt use it, it has no effect., btw

In 4.5 (I think), effects that correctly respond to the relevant VST query (there's a "Do you do tempo sync?" command that the adapter fires off).
That definitely works here, although some plug-ins say "yes, I do tempo sync" even when they don't. But it won't amend already scanned plug-ins.

Pretty certain they override the folder defaults: the last big batch I wrapped set tempo sync on pretty much everything (even though only about 3 of them supported it) even though the folder default is off, so I'm assuming these all incorrectly reported supporting tempo sync. And to prove it isn't ignoring folder defaults, wrapping another couple of individuals since then didn't set tempo sync when they genuinely didn't support it. So it seems like it's working as expected.
One caveat though - tempo sync and synth tickboxes are mutually exclusive, so if you manually check a synth as tempo sync or use the folder defaults to set it automatically, it stops being available as a synth.
