Posted about this in Music Cafe last week, but totally
spaced on posting this here until now, sorry:
Anyway, I'm teaching sound design and production
at my local community college here in
Halifax NS Canada and each week the students have
a homework assignment in which I give them some
audio files I've made and they need to mangle 'em/
create pieces/projects using what was taught in class
that day and then bring their results in the next
class for discussion; figured I might as well make these
audio files available to anyone who wants to use 'em;
here's the latest batch:

(And in case you missed out on last week's):

Happy music-makin'.

They are wav files, btw.
And no copyright material was used to make 'em,
so no copyright issues to worry about.

Thanks for these, I've already downloaded some of the samples from your site (haven't used them for anything constructive yet!). I'm also very much enjoying your album Sprung which I downloaded from emusic, I'll download another when my quota gets replenished at the end of the month (any suggestions?).
My sister emigrated to Nova Scotia (Truro) last year, it's a beautiful part of the world, hope I'll get a chance to visit her soon.

Cheers
John

Hi, John. I went to high school in Truro, now living in Halifax NS since 1987. It's probably the most laidback place I've been in Canada other than Saskatoon SK and St. John's NF (didn't live those last two places, just toured/visited there). Glad you are enjoying Sprung. I was flattered when that was nominated for Canadian electronic album of the year at the Canadian Independent Music Awards the year after it came out (Akufen won, but it was nice just to be nominated). re: my other music: my forthcoming album on Phthalo (Consumer Vs. User, mastered by Mark "Vapourspace" Gage) is out soon and similar to Sprung in that it is rhythmic, gritty, and raw. Also, a collaborative album I recorded with Montreal's I8U (http://www.i8u.com) is coming out on Quebec's Pertinence soon. It too is very gritty and raw and minimal akin to what was released on Finland's Sähkö imprint back in the day; lots of Doepfer Filterbank growling on it; long songs too. One of the tracks is called "MVI (as per David Kristian)" because David (a mutual friend of I8U and I) was at the studio while we were recording it and he jokingly referred to it as a "Mika Vainio impression" (hence the MVI in the title).
If you'd like to check some of my other music out, go to http://www.andrew-duke.com and in the bottom half of the screen are graphics of my various albums and EPs; click on a cover and it will take you
to the label site where you can either
hear the release in full (Second Opinion and
Oscar The Grouch albums, 09X90 and Inbox EPs),
or read more info about the release, reviews, etc.
Hopefully that will help you out. There's also
tons of downloadable/streamable listening material (live sets, songs, etc) on http://andrew-duke.com/listen.html
Take care and thanks for the support.

Hey, Bob.
Looking forward to playing live in Ottawa again soon.
One student missed the last class, but he emailed right
after class to say that he was sorry to miss class but
he had to go to the hospital that afternoon to emergency
(so that was a satisfactory reason! ;))
I didn't want him to miss out on anything, so I sent him
a very detailed email with screenshots I made for him to
get him caught up.
The course is getting a lot of interest from people outside
Halifax and internationally, so I may, if the interest is
there and time permits, put the course online. Already some
talk about taking the course to other colleges in the area.
There is currently at least one online course similar, but it
is very long and very expensive. I'm aiming for a cheaper,
shorter, easier, more accessible alternative.
