Perhaps it is just me but are some of the samples in VOXd a shade off key?

Anyone else or do I need I need to get my ears syringed :?: ?

I know that TSW had issues of this nature. Maybe you should list the VOX'd samples you think are affected ...

Post

Actually, I think I'll list them:

Ax Daah (off key notes in the multisamples)
Ax Uuu (ditto)
HV AAAH1 (you know that when C# and D are the same there's something wrong :(, although later octave seems ok)
HV AAAH2 (ditto)
HV HUUH (all notes exactly the same above a certain point)
Real Choir 1 (some notes are just slightly off)
Soprano 2 (ditto)
Beep V Shot (I found I had to set TUNE = -7 and FINE = +0.35 to get it to match other samples)
Hah V Shot (TUNE = +5, FINE = -0.39)

I'll check the rest later...

Post

..continued

CMI Vox 03 (It jumps an octave at one point when you move up from D# to E)
CMI Vox 11 (It jumps an octave at one point when you move up from G# to A)
Mellotron Choir String (oh dear, this one is all over the place :-o )
Z MorphVox (another one with identical adjacent notes, throwing off the musical progression quite seriously. a shame really as its a nice sound)
OB Voicy (jumps an octave at one point)

I'll continue tomorrow, but before I go I'd just like to say that there are many mighty fine samples in the package - in case anyone thinks I'm being too negative :)

We´ll check this, of course a octave jump isn´t intended, except it would be a split Preset setting. Sorry for any confusion about that and good to know that this doesn´t affect your vox´d use too much.

As we´ve hired one for the vox´d mapping job he´s already fired now.

We´re working on new vox´d Presets and a sample expansion at this moment, so I guess it´s OK that we add the "check the samples list" to this schedule and fix them during this processing.

kpr,

Will that expansion be free for registered (and TSW Pro) users or will there be a price tag. If a price tag, how much (ballpark figure)?

Any ETA?

As promised the new vox´d Presets bank with 120 new Presets created by several sounddesigners will be free of charge.

The coming up vox´d Expansion will be a Sample/Presets package with new vocal samples and Presets based on both original vox´d and Expansion sample content. The vox´d Expansion will be US$ 39.95 and for TSW Pro customers US$ 29.95.

The release dates are tba.

This is good news (as is the discovery of the bugs in the original set, and the promise of fixes). Expanding the presets will do me some good (I only use a few of the ones there now).

And the Vol.2 expansion is something I'd buy, for sure. :) Whenever.

Suggestion: let Mallory beta test them all for bum notes. :P

... continuing from yesterday

Spark Vox 1 (every note the same?, can't be right surely)
Vox Wave 08 (set TUNE = +4 ! and FINE = +0.45)

Btw, I should say that I'm testing each sample "raw". I start with the Init preset in Wusik V1 and load up the sample into osc 1 with no further processing. Osc 2 has a saw wave loaded up for comparing the tuning. So the issues I'm listing are nothing to do with any zoning/presets.

More tomorrow...

Thanks, Mallory, for your kind help. I´ve copy/paste the instruments and it looks that the most listed problem samples are wrongly mapped which is easy to fix. The tune issues will be viewed per sample individually, in some rare cases an attack pitch might vary to the sustain pitch and this is intentional.

.. finishing up now (phew!)

OB Vox Brass (set FINE = -0.56)

Ok, that was the last one. Hopefully these samples can be fixed for all us VOX'd users soon.

Thanks again for your bugtracker work! As mentioned above we´ll consider this with the new Presets making and the vox´d Expansion.

That explains it.. I beta-tested this soundset and found alot of errors (probably many that Mallory is finding now). But unfortunately there wasn't time to fix them all before release I guess.

Anyway, going back through my email archive I found this:
something out of tune in Ax Daah (try holding a E3-G3-B3 chord.. somethings off)
loud click during the attack of Breathless
" " Choir Ensemble 3
HV HUUH sometimes plays notes sounding nothing like voice (sounds like a fast lfo)
attack clicks (ie C4, A4) on HV AAHH 2
Soprano 1 and 2 seem at least 1-2 octaves too low on keyboard
CMI Vox 3 abrupt change in timbre at D#3-E3
Mellotron String Choir severe attack clicks from b3-d5, plus more spread around keyboard

AL VMOD2 - about -2 semitones out of tune I think
Choir 2 - loop is very noisy. Maybe intentional though
HV AAAH 1 - attack clicks A4 and A#4 for example
are HV AAAH 1 and HV AAAH 2 identical?
Real Choir 1 - attack clicks C3-C4
Beep V Shot - one octave too high I think
Horror - Loop-click
CMI Vox 11 - abrupt change in timbre between F#3-G3
Mellotron Choir Reel A - many attack clicks, ie. G3, F4 etc.
Mellotron Choir Reel C - many attack clicks, ie. most of 3rd and 4th octaves (note difference between E4 and F4)
Mellotron Choir String - Some notes (E3-A4) are violins?? Almost all the other voice notes have attack clicks.

Model Sing Key - octave jump between A1-A#1
Z Morphvox - strange tonal jump between D3-E3 and D4-E4
Aah Vox 2 - attack clicks mostly below C4
AL Loooh - attack clicks throughout
C Saaah - noisy sample starting at C#4
790s Humanvoice - attack clicks throughout
Angel Vox - attack clicks
Digi Voice - attack clicks
Digi Vox - attack clicks
Farbreath - attack clicks
Halloween 2 - attack clicks
Hammil Choir - 10 semitones sharp
OB Voicy - octave jump at A3-A#3
Org Vox - tonal jump at C3-C#3
PE2000 Chorus - attack clicks
Softvoice - attack clicks
SY Mix Choir 1 - attack clicks
T Ooh Vox - attack clicks
Vox Wave 02 - about 40 cents sharp
Vox Wave 03 - about 40 cents sharp
Vox Wave 04 - about 35 cents sharp
Vox Wave 05 - about 20 cents sharp
Vox Wave 06 - about 26 cents sharp
Vox Wave 07 - sharp, but my ears are getting tired so not sure how much
Vox Wave 08 - 7 semitones sharp
X V Ensemble 1 - attack clicks
X Wah - attack clicks
Note that some of these are perhaps fixed by now... But I did go through every single set as I recall (this back in March 2005!)

Post

Yes, the most are fixed. But in any case we try to fix all concerned samples soon as possible, vox´d Expansion is coming soon and the Presets will consider both sample contents.
