I've always had trouble with the sound of phasers. I mean other than the standard 'whoosh, whoosh' what else can they do? The couple of times that I've tried a phaser, they just seem to be variations of the basic 'whoosh' sound. IOW, your basic one trick pony. Maybe phasers are just not my taste?rockin1 wrote:Shamann, please do post the phaser clip. I'm thinking about the PhaseTwo and this clip might be the thing to convince me (hearing the comparison with other phasers, etc)...

That could be. Phasers are one trick ponies, but when you want that trick, nothing else is the same. I like them best on pads.
I just listened to the PhaseTwo demo that is a side by side with the real thing. I'm surprised that's posted on the Audio Damage site because to my ears it shows that the real thing is much smoother and silkier sounding. Are there other side by sides with the real thing that might convince me otherwise?

I guess it's that I was thinking that I was missing something. Apparently not!rockin1 wrote:That could be. Phasers are one trick ponies, but when you want that trick, nothing else is the same. I like them best on pads.

Okay, here it is. Originally posted in this thread:rockin1 wrote:Shamann, please do post the phaser clip. I'm thinking about the PhaseTwo and this clip might be the thing to convince me (hearing the comparison with other phasers, etc)...
clip full of phasers
Order of clips: dry loop, xhip phaser, Kjaerhus Classic Phaser, antti's Phase-90, Simulanalog's PS-1, Bram's Supaphaser, Luxonix LFX-1310, Audiomulch phaser, Audio Damage Phase Two
(be forewarned that some of the phasers were prone to causing clipping, and I didn't have a limiter handy when I was putting this stuff together)
Some tricks with phasers I've been discovering is using them as a subtle stereo depth enhancer, or as a wibbly effect on drums. I've actually been using Phase Two a lot while testing Big Seq, they sound great together, the phaser brings out the filter nicely.
And here's that Ronin clip I mentioned. Nothing earth-shattering, first a drum loop than the loop run through two very dissimilar patches on Ronin, no other effects.

knowledgement = now lets mention? anyone else hear that?(refering to the Discord vocal clip). I swear I'm sober too. Sounds like you can use that plug to do some awesome vocal trickery like Phish sometimes do with simple vocal phrases when they harmonize together. Trey (Phish guitarist) is a proud user of the Bi-Phase pedal too I might add.

You know, you're the first person to ever mention the mystery that is knowledgement in the clip. I originally made this on request from a former member here who frequently used the word in place of just saying knowledge (German guy, so can't hold it against him). I was just taking the piss using the word in this demo. I still laugh every time I hear it.metalifuxx wrote:knowledgement = now lets mention? anyone else hear that?
My favourites are the last two, the one in Audiomulch and PhaseTwo. The Audiomulch is excellent at the big wet whoosh sound, and PhaseTwo has a nice smooth sound, and they both sound the most to me like phasers should, and less like flangers.rockin1 wrote:Thanks for reposting the clip shamann. It's very informative. I have 3 favorites all for different qualities - xhip, supaphaser, and PhaseTwo. What are your favorites?

I'm very impressed that they have a return policy. That is awesome.
