hello ppl,
i've been using flstudio for 2 years now and i
wouldn't change it for anything.
the main problem though is recording live vocals
untill now i've been using cubase but it seems
abit pointless to keep it only for vocal recording

so my question is :

what do u ppl use or what is the best app
for vocal recordings...

:))) thanks.

Post

For me it's energyXT because it makes comping really easy. :-D

doesn't make sense to me, since you've got it (cubase)why not use it?
I do all my vocal pop stuff in cubase

Post

jens, what's comping? (sorry about my ignorance)
another question: in energy xt, can you record in one channel with no effects but at the same time redirect that channel to another with effects so that you can monitor with effects while recording it dry?
that's something I usually do in FL and I love it.

bluedad i do all my sequences in fl... and cubase is heavy on my computer.. i don't need to edit midi
just record vocals and use waves to edit...
my question was is there a replacement that works like cubase layout in regarding to vocal recording.

You can do that with Cubase too; set up a Group Channel with FX in it and make that the recording channel's Output. Or you could just use send or insert FX - neither will print to tape.

Yeah but I do not use Cubase...

as you can monitor any track(s) while recording to any other track(s)that's a breeze with eXT :-D

'comping' (derrives from 'composite') means using the best parts of several takes to get one 'über-take' :)

I record my vocals in Tracktion because it's easy to get around in. When I record vocals or any other type of audio workflow is important, and for me it is Tracktion, but might not be for you. Best suggestion I can offer is to try demos.

jens, thanks a lot for enlightening me ;)

one question: does Energy XT have loop recording? I mean, select a part from a song and be able to record the same vocal melody several times in a row?

which is a joy to do in cubase compared to other hosts I have used
I personally can't see why you would want to stop using cubase if you already have it

Yes, it has it in a great way and this is what makes it so good for recording audio - you record in a part (clip) and this clip has as many channel as loops have been recorded. When you double-click on the track header this is what it looks like:

Image

the single takes sit one below the other and you can zoom in/out and resize this in-track editor all you like. EXT remembers the respective zoom and size settings for the in-track editor for each individual track. You can split each take into multiple events and each event can be muted. (I senselessly muted a few events for this screenshot - they have an opaque background))

However if you double click on the part the real fun begins.

Here you can see that each take has got its own channel which can be muted, soloed, panned and can have a gain-adjustment.

However also each event has its own properties such as pan, gain, pitch and fade-in/out (at the bottom of this window)

Of course also here you can zoom in/out just as you like and mute single events. Also you can add and delete channels and of course import samples by either dragging from eXT'S own browser or from explorer.

When you make a loop-recording eXT automatically soloes the channel which contains the last complete take.

There still could be some improvements such as implementing the ability to reorder the channels by dragging the up/down and the ability to route channels to different outputs. - However at least the latter feauture will be included in XT2 which is about to be released pretty soon.

I'm getting vry interested in Energy XT, to use it in combination with my FL.

Just another question, maybe you can answer me: say i open Energy XT inside FL, and in Energy XT I open Reaktor plus effects. Can I easily freeze the whole chain (vsti plus effects) it so that it doesn't use cpu? that way would be great to reduce cpu inside FL...

another thing: do you know if Energy XT handles sysex messages so as to use them with my hardware synth? if not, do you know if XT2 will have them?
thanks and sorry for all these questions.

wow, loop recording in xt looks pretty cool. I haven't gotten to learn much about the sequencing aspects of xt yet; I did get it set up a few days ago. i'm still much quicker in cubase, and well, when the muse strikes you gotta move fast! :)

I usually manage to get out of the way in time.
