Best reverbs !?

I thought differently on this in the past, but after tweaking my Lexicon MPX 550, I'm finding that even this lower end unit exceeds (although not by much) these VST plug-ins. I think things are improved because I avoid reconverting by sending to and from by spdif. Then I don't have to worry about CPU consumption hits.
I'll be saving up for a better Lexicon.

Maybe I'm just cheap, but with a combination of Glaceverb (Free) and some really good impulses in SIR (Free), I'm so much better off than I was a few years ago that I don't even look at all these other verbs.

Particularly for the price.JeffSanders wrote:I agree with your top 5. I'd just swap Rayspace with the Arts Acoustic.
The IK CSR is going to have to kick ass up and down the block to better these two.
I liked some of what Rayspace could do. I found it a mixed bag depending on how you set it. I still haven't "gotten" Arts Acoustic, yet. I liked Masterverb 5, but only for the rooms and plates. Wizzoo impressed me greatly, but it has such a huge CPU hit at 96 KHz.
Ambience is a worthy plug and deserves some of your time and a donation if you use it. It can sound surprisingly smooth in the long tails. Super high CPU drain, though.

Only downside is having only one aux send per rack unit (unless some of the high end racks can do more).feyshay wrote:I thought differently on this in the past, but after tweaking my Lexicon MPX 550, I'm finding that even this lower end unit exceeds (although not by much) these VST plug-ins. With Sonar's Sonatis Reverb and Perfect Space along with Waves' Trueverb and IR-L I think I'm covered for the money spent - Tried the demos of AAR, WaveArts, Wizoo, and most of the rest and I can't see where there is an advantage over what I have for what I need - every ear is different though.
There is just a lot of good stuff out there to choose from these days. One can go stir-crazy playing with them all - but it's fun though!

Low cpu, nice but no huge reverbs.
Ambience is way better.
Use the quality knob to reduce cpu of it.

That was a good tip. Very tweakable, with many nice features and a cool ice cube to look at.Shadowtech wrote:I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but one of the coolest Reverbs I've come across is "GlaceVerb." It's definitely worth checking out, plus it's freeware.

I can see that as a benefit too, that is if the reverb is putting it's focus on small, realistic reverbs. If you're looking for natural reverb I find most reverbs are focused on huge verbs...but truth be known, that's far from natural. I also find a lot reverbs loose their character when applied with a light touch. IMO more musicians abuse reverb, not use it properly...but this is just my opinion...Low cpu, nice but no huge reverbs.
