I can't get Ableton Live 2.01 to recognize the Mac OS X VST version of Ambience. I'm running Mac OS 10.2.4. I put it in the library/audio/plug-ins/VST folder, and while other applications such as Spark ME 2.7 have no problem recognizing it and using it, Live just refuses to.
I thought it interesting that the MDA Audio Unit plugins (http://www.mda-vst.com/) are recognized by Live. I can only speculate that they are hybrid VST/AU plugins, even though they are only installed in the AU folder in library/audio/plug-ins/components. So, I thought I'd try my luck by installing the AU version of Ambience to see if was recognized by Live. Still no luck, unsurprisingly.
I've already posted this problem on the Ableton forum, hoping there's something obvious I'm missing, but I haven't gotten a reply yet.
Magnus, if I can get the Ambience to work within Live, you'll have both my gratitude and my money. Thank you for putting so much effort into writing this reverb, it's exactly what I've been looking for. If I could just get it to work in my main application!
BTW, I was wondering if Ambience is optimized for Altivec? I know it's optimized for SSE etc. Sorry if you've already covered this elsewhere. Thanks again everyone.

This is an extremely hard thing for me to fix, 'cause I don't own a mac myself, but I'll see if I can get someone to help me with it. Thanks.
Ambience has not been optimized for altivec, because of the same reason as above.

Thank you for your reply , Magnus.
I also understand the lack of Altivec optimization since it would require someone to not only port the code for you, but to painstakingly revise it for optimization. You'd probably have to pay the guy. I'm already grateful that you bothered to make Mac versions of Ambience available.
However, I still cannot help asking that if it ever becomes possible, to please consider some way of getting Altivec optimization since Mac users are very obviously disadvantaged at the moment with respect to processing power. I'm aware that the advantages of Altivec vary greatly, but my guess is since it is a vector-engine, that it will definitely help the Ambience algo.
Again, I realise that this is very difficult for you to do anything about, but any help at all (with just getting it to work within Live) will be greatly appreciated. I've also contacted Ableton directly about this, and will let you know if they reply. Thanks for your time.
I guessed as much when you thanked Marc at Destroyfx for doing the porting to AU for you.magnus@se wrote:I don't own a mac myself
