Firstly, i'm not sure if i should post here or to IK so forgive me if this is the wrong place..

I've just upgraded from smapletank 2 to 2.1 and i've been looking through the files. I notice that there are some .STIP files in the folders which don't show up as corresponding instruments in sampletank. I've only looked at the drum kits so far but i've noticed the following .STIP files:

curly
lowercase
massively
nordic
papertrail
pocketfusion
practiceroom
thinyhitsgroover
trashy

... and there aren't any drumkits with these names.

This isn't just a matter of hitting relist, i've tried that and there's no change.

Anyone got any ideas? Is it that these were originally supposed to be includedbut didn't make the grade? Or is there a problem with them that might get fixed later?

For that matter, is this a new issue or was it the same with sampletank 2 (i never looked before).

I would like to know more about the .STP and .STIP files in ST2XL. What is the purpose of these file types?

As far as i can work out (others will probably know this better than me)for each instrument there's a big file which contains the actual sound - like a .wav but called something different - then for each basic instrument there's a file called .ste (or something) then for each variation on the basic instrument there's a .stip which i assume contains information about things like which effects are used.

I've not got sampletank in front of me so i can't remember the actual file extensions, but the question i originally raised was that there seem to be some variations which don't show up on the instrument list.

Hey guys, I'm also a curious about these stip files. Noticed them after I installed the 2.1 sounds. Did you ever manage to find out what they are for? Maybe someone at SR can help shed a light on this?

STP and STV files are for stretch analysis. STIP is the extension for "child presents" which are variations of the main "parent" presets (which have STI, STH and STW files).

Not sure what those STIP files are for but it is possible they aren't supposed to be in there. Extras perhaps. Although someone can check to see if they show up in a previous version and if they do then in that case it could be because of an ID change in the parent sound.

We can see if there's an older version around and try it (all our machines at SR are now running ST2.1 or higher :hihi: ;) ).

Thanks Squids! Yeah, it would be kinda interesting to know what they are for. There's quite a few of those files in the various directories after all, and with interesting names too. But they don't show up anywhere in ST2. Good to know that's not a fault anyway.

STIP files are child patches that need not be related alphbetically to anything adjacent to them in the windows folder. If you look under all the other patch trees in ST you will eventually find them.

Thanks.

I'll take a look back at 2.0 to see if they were present there, but I'm pretty sure they weren't.
