Maybe the poll has the wrong question. It should have been: "Do these files sound different?". However, I did say quite clearly that IN MY OPINION waves sounded better. You can clearly vote 'no' in the poll for the opposite but no need to get rude or "smart" about the validity of the thread. Shows (again) at what level KvR stands when it comes to discussing subtle differences. You guys asked for this thread (see the Waves SSL topic). You got it. Where's the problem?
I'll just leave it at this.. no use doing more testing as there's clearly no point.

I did'nt mean everyone who posted on this thread.I just felt he got some flac he did'nt deserve.
He took the time of posting the results so people could hear for themselves. How many around here has acces to a Protools HD system.Very few,is my guess.
Like i said, it is a question about separating the BS from the facts.

The is a significant difference in obsessing over a very small difference and NO difference.
The first one is encouraged and the second one is just stupid.

noooo, we just started, why end it now just because some act like fools. i'm sure there are people, who would like to know more, i still would like to compare waves-tdm to waves in a native host with 24bit-files. don't be discouraged by some.bmanic wrote:I'll just leave it at this.. no use doing more testing as there's clearly no point.

Ok, I don't have a native host with waves though (but AFAIK rtas on protools SHOULD be identical to all the other native versions. It is 32bit float after all) so if somebody with access to waves plugins and a native host could do that part.

think about that for a second there guys.
What exactly do you think you will achieve? Just what makes you think mac PT HD's handling of RTAS (100% native) would be any different to say, Cubase running DX waves on a PC(100% native)?
And 24bit files? bleh. They all process, input and output 32bit float nevertheless, then truncate (or round, or pad) to whatever the original file is.
Except TDM of course.

Oh I see! But I do hear a difference; the L2 TDM version seems slightly more smooth and soft in the high end. But as I would never have driven it this far, it could for all I know be the native version that sounded best at lower compression.bmanic wrote:Umm, they are deliberately pushed "too far" to show that there is a clear difference. Because there are plenty of people happy to give opinions about something which they are not qualified to offer opinions on.jupiter8 wrote:There is a lot of people hating Protools.I wonder why that is?
I bet that 90% of people who use this forum have not so much as completed a single project in ProTools TDM.
I haven't.
Is ProTools crappy? I don't know.
See; it's that easy!

I've never even seen ProTools.
Alls I know is that, listening to those sample clips, there's no way in hell you could ever justify to me that drastic difference in price. You'd have to be mental to pay thousands extra for that. Either that or you just have too much disposable income.
And if that's the case then hit me up. I'll gladly take some of it off your hands for you.

mhh. i would not say that the difference is so subtle.
i hear it more than clearly. rtas seems to be way more "muddy".
it seems more inconsistent
but to be honest, in a normal hearing situation it is sublte of course, but if you search for certain charachter in your sound, you may notice the difference instantly.

It's the placebo effect. Dr Waves has what you need. And it'll only cost you a few extra grand. Hey, as long as there are people willing to shell it out, they'll be willing to take it.dasdeck wrote:mhh. i would not say that the difference is so subtle.

1st excuse my bad english. - thx
i my opinion (and I'm not a prof, just have 1 pair Event 20/20bas v2 acitve speakers) the RTAS sounds a little bit smoother or is a little bit "wasched out" and I blieve to hear a little bit more highs (between 5-9khz)
The TDM has slightly more distortion and is a little harder, aggressive and more concretly in the highs
maybe I'm worng than/then (- I don't konw) please correct me.
@ bmanic: thx for the files, realy interesting
