Q-30: How can I get multi-outs and -ins on the Vst versions?

A - Mikael Adle - For example. 4 stereo outputs.

Create an ini file called e.g. xt4out.ini and type:
[VST]
enable=1
outputs=8

Then create a copy of the xt vst dll and rename it xt4out.dll and have it the same folder as your VSTi´s.
set outputs to 16 if you want 8 stereo outs, etc. :)

e.g. xt8out.ini in C:\windows, xt8out.dll in your VST folder, next to your regular energyXT.dll

..now just one question:
is there a way to have for exemple 3 stereo output and 6 mono output setting the .ini file?
Thanx a lot!

You link or unlink the outputs individually yourself.

I'm in a surround setup and I need 6 mono channels to be separate to match the 5.1 channels.
There is no way at all?

like hovmod said:

rightclick "master out", click "inputs and outputs" and click "unlink" on all outputs you use for your 5.1 setup.

Not automatically, no.

But, after you have unlinked them and added any ocmps, VSTis etc that you want you could save the song as a "template" project.

NB: When you open this project remember to save it with a new name straightaway, so you don't accidentally overwrite it.

if you are referring to using it in a host other than eXT you'll be out of luck if the host doesn't support changing stereo to mono outs , they'll always default to stereo outs by the ini file procedure.

Before you attempt to read the following, I will warn you that it is only of any use to people needing to use mono insert effects on their sequencer's mixer channels when mono channels are being routed from eXT VSTi. I expect most people already know about all this anyway but I have got to make it look like I know something :) and if you thought that made no sense then you should read the following......... :oops:

I use eXT as a VSTi in Cubase VST5 . As has been said in this thread, you can only save various eXT .ini files with stereo outs NOT mono. What I do is have a Cubase default template which is set so that it loads with one eXT vsti set with 16 stereo outs. This will then take up all my 32 Cubase VST5 VST mixer channels. You can then send a mono signal out from eXT into Cubase by selecting "Unlink" in the "Master Out". The mono signal will then be sent out from eXT into one of either the left or right channels of the Cubase VST mixer. The problem occurs though when you want to add mono insert effects to one of these mono channels in Cubase's VST mixer channels, as these are all set to stereo because eXT's .ini file can only be configured to create stereo outs. To get round the problem I insert eXTe into the Cubase VST mixer channel, unlink their master ins/outs and then apply whatever mono effects I want to use. This is useful for certain TC Powercore and UAD1 effects which don't behave well in the eXT vsti.

Was that of any use to anyone out there......I doubt it!! :hihi:

Thanx for all reply,i was already doing what you told me(unlink etc etc..)..I thinked there was a way in the ini file to have stereo and mono outs..unfortunaly is not possible as in CONSOLE(here you can create a vsti host with mono and stereo outs as you want,but just one at once!).
I know that cubase and nuendo cannot split incoming stereo channels :(
I'm waiting for an update to do so..

Why do you want to split incoming stereo channels? I just insert an eXTe (EnergyXT VST effect) into a Cubase mixer channel, unlink its in/outs then insert mono effects on each channel within it. I could well be missing the point here though..... :?
