SweetyVST is subtle, yet flexible. RubyTube roughly emulates a generic tube, but does it fairly well; its distortion reminds me of Antares Tube or a Presonus TubePre set to stun. These are probably better thought of as warmers than exciters, but if you apply them to a high-passed track (or Tracktion rack), they'll do fine.
You could also try an amp sim. All of them will excite the harmonics, but there's a certian amount of filtering assumed, so they'll probably also radically alter the tone as well. Simulanalog's JCM 900 (in the Guitar Suite package) -- on subtle settings -- is a good place to start. Boogex, Juicy77, and Cortex are also good choices.
I think the directed plug search (see the link labeled "Instruments Effects Hosts etc." in the upper left-hand of the page) has a category for exciters.
