This has got to be the most confusing app when it comes to import raw data (only sensible thing to do because it doesnt even recognize half of my files as proper "Audio")

I know it's free and I shouldn't rant but I don't think this is for me! *mops brow*

the app seems to assume that you know all the properties of any file you import by heart and fill in the little dialogue accordingly, or else it randomly doubles the pitch, or turns samples into white noise and other fun things.

The thing is I've been searching the web up and down for a similar app, there isn't one free or cheap out there except audacity (I'm on OSX) or is there??*

*true purpose of my post

I tend to use Wavepad for basic bits and pieces - it's pretty good. Give it a try - it's another freebie! http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/

Sorry - just noticed that you're on a Mac...never mind...

Hi bbanyard,
perhaps you can explain why Wavepad outputs just zero-samples when batch-converting .wav to .aif?

Not sure - never tried as I aways work in .wav - maybe try e-mailing the developers!

Just looking at the FAQ, maybe you have to upgrade to the Master's Edition for batch processing:
"A number of professional tools for WavePad are only permanently available for WavePad if you have purchased an upgrade to WavePad Master's Edition. These features include the batch file processor, keyboard macros, projects, bookmarks, regions and the region assembler."

Right! That would explain it. It's a nice little program (the free version) - I usually use it to grab samples as it rips from CD pretty efficiently.

I can't seem to get the VST Plugins effects list to populate. Am I right assuming that the directory list is recursive? How do I get Wavepad to populate the dropdown list?

TIA

Post

it doesnot scan the folder.directly list the dll(VST) so only pointing to common VST folder wont work here.Point to dll files/folder. VST support looks quite buggy.

plus it doesnt "save as" in higher than 16bit bitdepths...

The latest 1.3 beta Audacity has batch conversion capabilities (havent tested them yet)
