Any recommendations? I'm looking for something which features a compressor where you can set attack to 0

If we're talking dynamics only, off the top of my head...

Really nice all around solution: Arguru Stardust

Mastering limiters: Kjaerhus Mastering Limiter, Buzzroom BuzMaxi and BuzVintageMaxi, TLS Maximizer and Pocket Limiter

Multiband Dinamics: DigitalFishPhones Endorphin, Slim Slow Slider C3

All of them free, all of them sound really nice to my ears. You can find them all here in the kvr database.

Alright i'm looking at reducing dynamic range without actually changing the sound, ie i don't want any attack or release paramters, or anything that just clips the sound off at a point (producing a flat line on the waveform). Am i after a compressor or a limiter (soft or hard?)

OK, then what you want is a limiter (choose from the ones above), with 0dB ceiling and the threshold to taste.

i recommend the w1 limiter. very good sound!
