I can run WAY more instances of plugins in Logic 5 than I can in eXT or Live 5.

Same here. And don't even get me started on the bloated Cubase SX audio engine...

Oh, and I'll always miss ES2 and EXS24 when I finally ditch it...

I would actually miss a lot of the internal plugins. Not even because there's no replacements, but because their layout is so consistent. The knobs and faders just feel great, learn one plugin and you know how all of them behave, etc...
Not to forget that quite some of them are still just great.

I couldn't get anywhere near the plug count in Cubase that I can in Logic... Not sure why people compare the two in that respect. I also felt, Cubase was a much better program on the PC than on the Mac (in my experience)... Although I did like the design, functionality and overall look of Cubase, there are many features of Logic that are "second nature" to me... I don't think I could switch now. I messed around with all of em' and I still have FL studio and Orion on one of my PCs, but In terms of working fast, getting from A to B, I'd be wasting my time with another host these days. Logic is as simple or complicated as you need, really!!

It's all I need, anyway!

Being able to sidechain is a plus also. The screensets are really good. You can easily detach a window also to use it on another screen. (by using ctrl and click on open arrange for instance).

Did they improve the sidechaining so it could be used just as easily with 3rd party plugins and also using an AU's direct output as the source? I always had to route VSTi's to a bus to use them as a sidechain source.

I couldn't believe proper sidechaining simply wasn't available in any other host when I started looking around after Logic went Mac-only.

I love the ES1 but Im having major nags with the "sampler".....while it's filters are really very very cool and I love operating it I have to say it's extremely cumbersome to make an instrument for it (the fact that you need to make an instrument at all instead of just loading a wave into its interface is bad enough). I do most of my sampling stuff with RMIV now...

Gotta love the ES1, EVP73 etc, I even like ESXP24, but it falls short of being a sampler proper IMHO.

Well, the EXSP is no sampler but a sample player.
I do however agree that it's just plain dumb, lame, stupid and whatever that you have to save each and every f**king instrument, even if you only plan on using it in your current song.
Sort of amazing they still haven't changed that...

I usually just take a bunch of samples like reverses and noises, map them across the keyboard and save it as a Multi FX instrument... works pretty well for FX stuff anyway...

I came to Logic 4.8 form Voyetra's Digital Orchestrator Pro coupled to a Tascam 488 Casette Multitracker. I read the manual thoroughly - and bought 3 books afterwards. So I'd say it's not exactly easy to learn.
Now I am using 5.5. on my newest computer, it still refuses some plugins, it still has me scratching my head sometimes, but it still does everything want it to - and probably a lot more which I just haven't found out yet.
I think I will stick with it for the time being.

Funny that - most Logic users would tell you the piano roll editor in Logic is one of their favourite parts

IF Apple decides to release logic again for PC which I personally think would be a good move for them, then I would buy it for sure.

I had never used a sequencer before and found it easy to use.

I now use the cheap pc version with most of the synths onboard as well.

It's called Magix Music Studio, no environment but I don't care as it still works fine.
Workflow and making a track fast is all well and good if you do it for a living, can't see the problem otherwise.

Music Studio is quote different to Logic - it basically took a much earlier version of Logic as it's original branch. And the onboard instruments are not the ones on Logic.
