Music Studio is quote different to Logic - it basically took a much earlier version of Logic as it's original branch. And the onboard instruments are not the ones on Logic.
It uses the logic 5.1 core, it is cut down but has many of the same functions and features. It will even import logic 5.1 files and export files that will run in logic. You just need to change the extention name. The onboard instruments are the same except the sample player, but with just a diferent layout and colour. No environment but it does have hyperdraw.
The new Vax-9 is in fact the ES1, the dll even states that!

Got any links with this info, I'm intrigued. I don't understand why they don't follow the Samplitude/Sequoia core which was also inspired by Logic.fake wrote:quote:

Music Studio is actually comprised of two programs. MIDI Studio is old cut-down Logic. Audio Studio is cut-down Samplitude.
Apparently, they listened to your suggestion....

I was a Cubase guy for a while, then was only on Reason, and then recently switched to Logic. Maybe Reason dumbed me down a bit (I'm just kidding, relax all you propellerheads!), but I definitely thought Logic was tough at first. Cubase was always intuitive to me, but with Logic I needed some kind help from KVR folks, and eventually a DVD tutorial.
I am starting to see some great potential...
And does anyone have a recommendation for a good AU sampler (not sample player!). I was mortified to discover that you cant load samples into the EXSP24!

Anyone know exactly how the "CLT" works? I've tried but it just aint happening! (I have Logic Express...)DHR53 wrote:"Capture last take"... Until someone else adds that in their host, I'll never switch!!

You just assign a key command to it (I think there's none assigned by default), have Logic running and play along as long as you like. Then press the key command and the last played parts will appear.jebudas wrote: Anyone know exactly how the "CLT" works? I've tried but it just aint happening! (I have Logic Express...)
If you use it in cycle mode you gotta be a bit careful as the cache of what you played will be emptied as soon as you play a note in the new cycle period.
I think Kontakt would be your best choice on a Mac. But I'd think about it twice. I mean, for the price you could as well update to Logic Pro, which would give you the full EXS24 and a whole bunch of other nice plugins. And does anyone have a recommendation for a good AU sampler (not sample player!). spaceman .. i hear ya ! i love logic too ...
have had pressure to change to PT .. have even seriously tried it for a while.. but no way, no way does it work like logic does ..
there's talk of bugs this and bugs that... but, touch wood, i must have a lucky combination of workflows.. because i'm not getting fired by them at all.
logic is inspiration for me .. simple as that
one thing that does sadden me though .. is that VSL decided to leave the intergration they had with EXS24 .. now they have their own VIs that will run in some kind of AU wrapper .. will wait and see what the hell they are up to before i buy , that's certain ..at least the whole pro ed and horizon still works in EXS for now.. not sure how much longer though
sample companies and their egos! what is it about trying to become software companies and rewrite the wheel
.

On Midi Studio:
More info on these here: http://www.computersandmusic.com/webpag ... page_ID=73
Midi Studio's SAMP 7 is based on EXSP24 technology (though very basic) and can import Soundfonts and EXS files.
As fake said, the Vax 9 is the ES1, though it currently has a tuning bug (plays a quarter tone flat) which it's hoped a patch will soon fix.
In fact, the Midi Studio Percusor is Logic's ESP, Carpet Sweeper is Logic's ESE, the MTB-6 is Logic's ESM and the FMX1 is Logic's EFM1 - all appeared in Midi Studio before they did in Logic!jackson wrote:... And the onboard instruments are not the ones on Logic.

Audio Studio on its own didn't have MIDI/VST support, so Midi Studio filled that gap. Since Music Studio first came out, Samplitude has gained VST support. I think for commercial reasons, it will be a long time (if ever) before Magix give Audio Studio Samplitude's MIDI features - it's a major selling point over the cheaper program. I much prefer sequencing in Midi Studio anyway.jackson wrote:... I don't understand why they don't follow the Samplitude/Sequoia core which was also inspired by Logic.

I use "shift"... "*" on the keypad for capture last take! And "*" as my record key as well... Sorry to turn this thread into my own personal tech support, but I do think other Logic users who dont know this will benefit...
In trying to add the beloved "Capture Last Take", I go to preferences, then key commands.
But when I type "capture" in the search box, nothing shows up. (When I type 'next' in the search box, I see 'next plug-in setting', etc...).
Is this feature only available on Pro?

I have no experience with Logic except for this: I asked a friend (he's not a musician) if we could install a demo of Logic Express in his mac just to see how it looks. After th e installation I tried to import some audio to hear it in action. So I found an mp3 file and I dragged it in the arranging area. Logic started doing something (I thought it was decompressing the mp3) and after a while I saw the most clever message in my life: "WHAT KIND OF FILE IS THIS?". Options for the user to respond: just one. "Cancel"

If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain

That's wierd, because after reading your post I just dragged an mp3 to the arrangement window (in Logic Express) and it converted it without a problem.zeoy wrote:I have no experience with Logic except for this: I asked a friend (he's not a musician) if we could install a demo of Logic Express in his mac just to see how it looks. Maybe that's a demo issue?
