If I swap my motherboard, would I need a new Digital ID?

My current motherboard developed a problem and needs to be replaced. I ordered the exact same brand/model, although I think this is a newer revision. Would I need to get a new Digital ID or Authorization code? I would only be able to install the new board Friday evening, but I need to use SampleTank2 on Saturday (scheduled session). Is this going to be a problem for me?

In general, a motherboard swap means a new digital ID for just about every C/R system I've seen.

Unless you've already used up your three "easy" digital ID's, then as long as IK's site is up you should be able to get a new authorization. If you've already used three digital ID's then you need to contact IK ASAP (I'd use phone or fax rather than e-mail if time is of the essence).

Thanks for the info! I have now found the IK re-authorize site and will have the link ready when I've made the swap. Hopefully any other software I use that uses this scheme will be that easy to re-authorize.

That brings up the scary thought of what happens when a company goes out of business and you upgrade your computer. I have at least 3 music software apps (or plugins) that use this scheme and some of those companies are barely staying in business from what I can tell (not IK, I mean). Let's hope those companies send everyone a "master" authorization key if they do go out of business so that you can then use it indefinitely on any system from there on out.

First, I believe IK and NI (two of the 'big' vendors I can think of that use C/R) are healthy and will be around a while, and both have provision for de-authorizing or requesting additional authorizations. NI also has stated that if they were to go under, they would post some sort of universal key - not sure about IK.

Two C/R disasters:
- Bitheadz went under with no notice. One of their employees will still do keygens if you can find him, but it'd be nice if they just uploaded the keygen software to KVR or Patcharena.
- Tassman3 used a different C/R scheme than Tassman2 (which was based on Pace). It became impossible to re-authorize T2, but AAS gave the upgrade from T2 to T3 free. Unfortunately, there were components in T2 that weren't in T3, so in some cases you could not recreate instruments in T3.

I don't expect those kind of things to happen with IK, and I'm glad I could help you get ready for your motherboard swap.
