Is it a distortion like an over-drive effect or more of a glitchy crackily sound?

which driver you use? DirectSound or ASIO? and how much is you audio buffer size or latency in each application?

It's maybe because of quantization error . Do you use same audio setting on both apllications? (for example 48000 khz , 24 bit)

I basically never had a problem till recently and ive been using this system for months... u think its possible i have a virus that does this?...its annoying because i need these samples and when i go back to old samples that i cut up months ago they have this stupid distortion out of no where...either that or the hard drive is goin...but why the sudden change and why just my samples...i deleted all the music that ive downloaded thus far....im wondering if anyone has ever had this problem

You need to check how much of your CPU is being used... FL6 can be a bit heavier on the CPU than FL5. You'll need to tweak your audio settings if you haven't done so in FL6. There's a setting in the Audio Settings where you select something like "Heaviest" Or "Most" or some such... sorry, I'm at work and can't look at it. You want that set to maximum, whatever the wording is...

The setting is highest, I also find that if you un-check the polling option and the hardware buffer option under audio settings, you will get better performance. I run FL6 on my P3 750MHZ laptop and use quite a few samples plus VST instruments and I get pretty good performance.
You can run an active scan on Panda's web site or housecall on Trend Micro's web site (I prefer Panda) and see if you have a virus. Even if you currently have a virus protection program installed. Also you can try to defrag your hard drive and check for spyware.

also check another samples which you are sure about their safety in first Cool Edit and then FL Studio too ensure that both applications run correctly.
