I currently create compose and edit in fls and reason. I recently bought adobe auditon and sonar5pe. after months of research on daw's I came to the conclusion that aa,and sonar offer much more the ptle in every aspect. My problem is, love it or hate it, pt is used by most studio's in my area "dallas.tx". be it most use le. I mostly do everything via softsynths and use only one outside innput for vocals. Is it neccessary to have pt or can I make just as good a recording in the programs I have "mainly fls/sonar"? Also is there a notable differnce in the quality of interfaces from the mbox2 and the firebox which I currently own?
when they ask who sent you tell them "I AM" sent you.

It is not necessary to have Protools. You could just "render" continous tracks all starting at 1.0.0 and import that in PTLE. You would loose the FX settings and such.
You can do just as good recordings in Sonar as you can in PTLE.No difference whatsoever.
All interfaces are different (well almost). If you notice it depends on the listening enviroment (speakers, room, amps) and your ears. Although nowadays i'd say the difference between interfaces is really small. There are other things to worry about first.

pro tools is ISO
keep your music somthing extra
it has a few options for recording live bands that are good (like tempo automation from midi)
but as you said you dont need it
save your cash & add energyXT to your list $50

I really like some of ProTools editing features, the way you can group selections, etc. The two biggest reasons I will avoid it:
- No PDC
- VST/RTAS adapter not all that reliable

Yes, ProTools is used in the big studios.
But the LE ("light" yuk!) edition is quite different!
If you see a studio using that, then avoid it.
Be happy with your AA/Sonar setup, which is just as powerfull as ProTools was 5 years ago.

I plan to buy Pro Tools M-Powered soon as a budget friendly mastering solution for running the Oxford plugs. If I could afford it, I might have gone with a PoCo card. As an audio editor, PT M-Powered is quite effective, but as a sequencer, it's minor league compared to SX3 or Sonar.
